Hello all!
I was wondering if anyone that has gone on the 7 day magic has had any problems bring thier video camera onto the islands? I have a small handheld that I keep in the carry bag when it isn't in use ( like a large purse)
Will it be OK (safe) for me to bring it on the Islands with me (I have never been to any Islands except Nassau on my last cruise and we didn't really do anything there) and also I am thinking of doing the Butterfly excursion at St. Martin and the Submarine excursion at St. Thomas, can I bring the video camera on the excursions?
Thanks alot!

I hope this answers your some of question.

We were on the four day and brought the video along. No problems as far as technical problems are concern. We were in busy areas, so did not feel uneasy or anything like that. I would not leave it unattended or anthing like that.

As far as Castaway Cay, based on what I read on this wonderful board before leaving we left it on the hamock on the beach almost all day and it was fine.

Hope this helps

The most common problem with video cameras on cruises in the "dew" issue...

Most cameras have a sort of self-defense mechanism whereby they shut down automatically if they accumulate moisture inside the camera, particularly on the record/playback heads.

This happens to lots of people, and can ruin your chances of taking any video on your trip...unless you know what to do!!

1. When not in use, wrap your camera in a towel to keep moisture away from it.

2. Open the tape door (Just as you do when you eject a tape)
and leave it open overnight. This allows it to 'air out' and any moisture that may have gathered will be dry by morning.

3. Be careful about using your camera for long periods of time out on deck, especially when the weather is wet or extremely humid.

4. Keep a packet of silica gel (you know, those funny little white packets you always see in the box when you buy stuff!) in your camera case. Their specific purpose is to absorb moisture!

Exercise these measures and you should have no trouble!!

:)

As for security - Castaway Cay is usually quite safe, but there is always one screwball in every crowd! Personally I would never leave my camera on a chair or table. To a crook, covering them with a towel is like hanging a neon sign on it that says "Steal Me".
This is especially true at Non-Disney dominated places such as Trunk Bay or other island excursions where the locals know how to dupe the tourists! Be careful.

ENJOY !!!
