Video cam on Rides

In the past I have had fairly free use of my video camera. I have recorded most of the rides by holding the cam on my shoulder. Now I have a new mini digital video recorder that comes equiped with a remote bullet camera that I can strap on my head. I'm sure I'll look like a total dork with this thing, but does anyone know if I will get in trouble for using it? I think it will make some great video on the coaster type rides. This thing is tiny, so I will just carry it in my fanny pack and whip it out after I get strapped in.

i was wondering this too

do the WDW workers get annoyed/ angry if u take photos while on rides or films???

Wild! I've never seen such a camera. Would you mind sharing the manufacturer/model? :thumbsup2

I've videotaped almost every show/attraction at WDW with no problems. Photos are usually fine, too.

The only time I won't videotape a certain show/attraction is if the rules forbid it. For example, many of the attractions at MGM don't allow videotaping (Star Tours, Tower of Terror among others), so I don't tape those. The CMs usually announce before the attraction whether taping is allowed.

Also, most rides/shows that do allow photos and videotaping don't allow flash photography or external video lighting, so if you're going to take pictures, turn off the flash. (You'll see inconsiderate people taking flash pictures all the time on, say, the Haunted Mansion or Pirates. It's really annoying.)

For Christmas I bought my dad a digital video camera and when we went to WDW in Feb, he filmed EVERYTHING! Like said before, there are some rides that will announce if you arent allowed to tape...but if there was a ride that didnt say that, you can bet that he was filming! Some of the tamer rides you might get away with that interesting video head gear, but if you plan on taping some of the more thrilling rides, youre better off holding the camera. My dad was able to tape Test Track and was holding the camera the whole time (even at the fast part at the end) and he taped Splash Mountain and most of the drop but then he quickly tucked the camera under his shirt right near the end of the drop to avoid water damage. So as long as youre discreet about the camera and dont use and lights, you can capture your whole vacation and have a great movie for you and your family to watch when you return!! :)

I think the Bullet cams are the best thing just for this.As your not holding the Cam up in front of others there is no Lcd screen to bother either.

The CM's don't care as long as stated before it's not a ride that doesn't allow it.

I have a real good Nightvision Cam and have taped all the Dark rides with the Lcd closed and just going by sight of hand.Just remember to try and keep your head from quick movement as it will show on the tape.

so u are allowed to take pics on rides, such as Soarin', Test Track, the Small World, Peter Pan etc... rides

I think WDW only doesnt allow you to take video on Theather type rides like Philharmagic, Tough to be a bug, etc... All other rides is usually just no flash. I did have a CM at Haunted Mansion tell me to turn off my cam when I was getting into my doombuggy. I figured he didnt know what he was talking about and turned the cam on as soon as the ride started, without lighting of course.

We have visited WDW three times since 1992, the last visit in 2005. Each visit has resulted in different policies about filming. I videotaped O Canada in 1995, but was prohibited on 2005. This last visit I taped everything I wanted except RnR when I was told filming was not allowed. Soarin' turned out great as did ToT, Test track, Slash, Space, and Big Thunder. Dinosoar was too dark for my Canon Elura 90. Haunted mansion was rather dark also.
I guess it depends on the CM regarding the policy.
Here are some of the video I shot:

The only ride a CM has ever asked me not to use a camera on was RnR (granted I've never tried in "movie" style rides... maybe they'd have a problem there as well)... although the reasoning was they didn't want the camera hitting me or someone else with the ride movements, so if you had something affixed to your head, they might not mind.

As another poster stated, video is typically not allowed on the theater-type attractions. This includes Philharmagic, Tough To Be a Bug, Muppets 3D, and Soarin. I've heard repeated warnings on each of these for individuals to stop filming.

I video'd Tower of Terror. I had it in my hand when we got on the ride, a CM simply said, "sir, be sure not to use any night vision modes, thank you."

It was great. Turned out great.

So let me understand (and please correct me if I'm wrong):

They asked you not to video and you did it anyway? :sad2:

No... they asked him not to use the NIGHT VISION MODE. Meaning... "go ahead and videotape, just don't use that mode"... or atleast that's how I took it. A CM said nearly the same thing to my DH while on our honeymoon- and he taped the ride in REGULAR MODE. :confused3 So, notnothin... I'm correcting you ;)

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I for some silly reason was thinking that the ride was so dark that night vision mode was the only option that would turn out decent video.

Again, thanks for the correction! ;)

DH has been wondering the same thing...thanks for all the info. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

They asked that I not use night vision modes. I did not use night vision modes. I was allowed to video. There was no problem using the video camera. Night Vision modes show how the "magic" is done and they would rather let it be magical.

The ride is very dark and not everything shows up. The best part does, the drops...

Also the night vision projects an infrared light (you can't really see it but thats what makes the green effect as it's the light source).

This can be picked up by some of the sensors and reflectors as the use the same type of technology on the dark rides for timing and so forth.

But the Behind the Magic is also a good reason they might not want these things shot.

I think my best was Space MT in night vision from a few years back.
