I just made reservations here for my mom and I for her birthday! It's a surprise so she'll probably look at me wierd when I tell her to pack nice clothes XD I was wondering how exactly the menu works because it's a set price per person. Is it like a three course meal and you just choose from some options for each meal?

Also, I know that it requires nice clothes but just HOW nice do you have to look. I mean, i'll wear a blouse and dress pants but i'm not a dress kind of girl.

Victoria and Albert's offers a 6 course meal. You usually have a choice of 2-3 items for each course and can add on some thing for an additional cost. Everything is excellent! I'm sure you both will love everything you have here!

As for the dress, I think what you have in mind is perfect. You absolutely do not have to wear a dress (I'm not a big fan of dresses either). Dress pants and a nicer top or bouse is perfect. I've seen people in khaki's and polo shirts and blend in well but that is as casual as I'd be willing to go at this restaurant.

Enjoy your meal!:flower3:

Thanks for the info! It sounds amazing. I'm sure I won't even know what to pick! I'm glad I don't have to get too fancy XD

OH, you will know what to pick, you will probably have a hard time choosing, as when you look at the menu, everything look delicious, and it is!

When I went last month the menu (with extra price item indicated) was

1 - Amuse Bouche

2 - Tamarind-Ancho Marinated Gulf Shrimp with Heirloom Tomato Vinaigarette
Jumbo Lump and Dungeness Crab with California Asparagus Salad
Iranian Golden Osetra Caviar with Traditional Garnish ($150 ½ oz, $300 1 oz)

3 - Truffle Cured Poussin with Spring Morels and English Peas
Poached South Carolina Quail with Black Mission Figs and Fuji Apples
Pan Roasted Foie Gras with Georgia Peach Tart and Mostarda di Cremona ($20)

4 - Virginia Black Bass Amandine with Bean Ragout and Marcona Almonds
Alaskan Red King Salmon with Torpedo Onions and Demi-Tasse Cup of Smoked Salmon
Seared Wild Turbot with Toasted Capers and Meyer Lemon ($30)

5 - Niman Ranch Lamb with Artichokes and Zellwood Corn
Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin and Belly with Banana Squash Ragout
Marcho Farms Veal Tenderloin with Braised Veal Cheeks and Burgundy Poached Sweet Breads
Australian "Kobe" Beef Tenderloin with Smoked Garlic Puree ($35)
Japanese Wagyu Strip Loin with Oxtail Jus ($80)

6 - Colson Bassett Stilton, Tarentaise and Nettle Meadow Kunik
White Chocolate Gelato with Micro Mint

7 - Tanzanian Chocolate Pyramid, Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle and Peruvian Chocolate Ice Cream & Pastry
Berry Gateau with Mango Yogurt Panna Cotta
Caramelized Banana Gateau
Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee
Grand Marnier Souffle
Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle

8 - "Celebes" Coffee, Tea and Friandise

Basically the dress code is tie and jacket for men, and some equal for women. Definitely no jeans or casual.

Awww...Ches! Now, I'm hungry! Yum! I've been debating on trying to get a ressie for DH and I. I guess I'm calling in the morning.

What a wonderful surprise for your mother!

But I do think you may feel a bit underdressed in a blouse and dress pants. A dressy pantsuit would work though. The most casual dress I've seen on a lady was a knee length skirt with blouse. 'Course I guess it depends on what you mean by blouse and dress pants. V&A is by far the dressiest place on property.

I've seen people in khaki's and polo shirts and blend in well but that is as casual as I'd be willing to go at this restaurant.

Men can't get away with that at V&A and I certainly have never seen a woman dressed that way either. Men must wear jackets. Women do dress up. Dress is not casual in any way IMO.

Agree with everything else about your post though!:goodvibes

A pantsuit would be fine--it's what Mrs U usually wears, and as lightweight as possible for packing purposes. No need for heels either.

FWIW, We saw many people headed for V&A during our stay last week...and they were all dressed to the nines. Everyone of them in dress clothes. There were very few in dressy pantsuits, mostly black cocktail dresses. Men varied from 2-3 piece suits to light Linen pants with shirts, ties and dark jackets.
No one was dressed in chinos and polos nor womens pants and blouses.

Wear what you are comfortable in, but plan to dress one step above what you might think is appropriate. It would be awful to get to this very nice dinner and spend several uncomfortable hours underdressed. (Well, i would be uncomfortable, maybe that's just me.)

We were there last Wednesday. If I get a chance I will scan in the menu although it was very similar to the one posted above.

I agree about the dress code - all of the women when we were there were in cocktail dresses. Men have to wear a jacket but no longer need a tie.
