I read here that you could book from the chefs table menu if you where eating in the main dining room. I was told that you couldn't by the gentleman I booked my reservation with, was he right? If not is it worth ringing back another day and trying again for that?

Several folks have reported doing exactly that, so unless there has been a recent change(?), what the gentleman told you was apparently wrong.

1) I think there is some confusion.
2) The main menu for dining room and Chef''s Table are the same.
3) The HUGE difference is that there are tons of extras.
4) The chef makes and serves many items not on the night's menu.
5) Many are items they are only thinking of trying and want to experiment.
6) These ARE NOT available to people not at the Chef's Table.
7) Additionally, Chef Table people can go WAY "off-menu".
8) They can get "almost" anything they want - within reason.
9) The meal can also be tailored to the Chef Table person's own taste.
10) The Dining Room folks do not have this honour.

NOTE: THis is based upon our experiences at the Chef's Table and the Dining Room.

Hi! That post was my own review, so thought I'd chime in. As someone earlier said, be clear that you're not looking for a Chef's Table reservation, which probably is unavailable. Just make reservations for the main dining room, and then tell them you'd like the Chef's Table menu.

They will serve you exactly what they serve the people sitting at the Chef's Table. The only difference is that you will be sitting in the main room, so you get the advantages of the atmosphere & hearing the harp.

Someone said you can't customize, which isn't true. As you can see, I went pescatarian, and they were easily able to accommodate me. I've also made special dessert requests in the past, and they have accommodated that, as well.

Cheers!

Glad to hear that we can get the Chefs Menu in the main dining room. I am having my wedding meal at V & A and I based my decision to not go with the Chef's Table knowing I could get the Chef's Table menu in the main dining room. I prefer the atmosphere in the main dining room and I knew that I may look out of place in my wedding dress at the Chef's Table. I got worried when I read that i had been mistaken about being able to obtain The Chef's Menu in the main dining room, glad it has been clarified.

I hope it works out for both of you but things do change.

Good luck!:thumbsup2
