can anyone tell me whether it would be suitable for me and my wife to take our daughter who is 14 to V&a ,also what is the dress code, any help greatly appreciated.

thanks :grouphug: :dance3: :bounce:

We had dinner at VA whilst on honeymoon and staying in the GF. I would say that you will be fine to eat here with your 14year old but the dress code is smart evening wear (I would ask the VA rest directly for the code they expect because it may be different!) . I say this because everyone without doubt makes a huge effort when dining here (on the occasions we have been anyway). For the ladies an extremly smart dress and for the guys I would say a suit and tie. As we knew what to expect my DH wore a Dinner Suit etc and I had a very glam dress but then it was our honeymoon not sure he would make such an effort now :rotfl: If you decide to go it will be a good excuse for the ladies to go shopping and treat themselves to a nice outfit. I would recommend you dine here as it will be a good experience. :)

Definitely a jacket for men, but I wouldn't worry about a tie. I don't wear a tie when we eat there, but do wear a suit.

The minimum requirements are a jacket for men and evening attire for woman, which actually results in a rather bizarre mix. You will see everything from DJs and Gone With The Wind style ballgowns; through blazers and smart trousers, and cocktail dresses (for the men, obviously ;) ); to chinos and casual jackets, and trousers/blouse combos.

The food at V&As is truly incredible. Anyone who is a real foodie can not fail to be impressed. The atmosphere is hushed - a departure from all other on-property dining. As Eljay says, if your daughter appreciates that type of experience then there is no reason why she shouldn't join you.

Doubt if we will ever make it to V&A - if we cannot get Josh into Golden Corral then we will have no chance here

You never know Johnny :grouphug:

If you want something slightly less starchy but with good quality food you could try Portabello Yacht Club at DTD. We love it there. You do have to dress fairly smart, but children are welcome there too.

The last time we went to V&As there was a family with two children of around ages 4 and 6. They were well behaved and dressed up smartly. We arranged for our dd to go to the kids club as there are no kids meals and she would not have appreciated the food for the price of it.

This year we have friends with us who will be looking after dd whilst we go out for a meal on our own. We will look after their children when they have a night out.

I am sure you will all have a great meal.

If your 14 year old likes good food and is OK with a meal that will last at least 2 hours she will enjoy it.

Dress code is formal., however mean are ex0pected to wear a jacket but a tie is not required. When we went OH wore a suit, as we walked there we heard the an American guest say to her husband "gee, he must be British, he's wearing a tie!"

Not so much 'starchy', more like 'classy', although I guess some wouldn't appreciate the difference... ;)

Don't you think that comment was a bit unnecessary?

No more unnecessary than your post, which didn't help with the OP's question.

IMO, your post hinted at a negative atmosphere at V&As, which is far from the truth.

Much as I love V&A's, I do agree that it could be described as a tad starchy. You could hardly have a rip-roaring time there! :teeth:

:Pinkbounc :badpc: Thanks for all your replies, one more question when you get the bill do they include service on the bill, and if yes do you normally tip again

No, service isn't included. You just need to tip as normal.

'Starchy' has negative overtones - I think 'revered' is more appropriate

Never mind that. Have you voted for me in this week's photo comp? :teeth:
