I'm so excited, as we are finally getting to try this restaurant next week! I have a few questions. Is the menu basically the same for everyone, with the exception of changes made to accomodate allergies? It seems like everything I've read with reviews indicates the same menu. Also, we just received a confirmation call, and they only asked about allergies. Do they typically inquire about preferences? I just want this to be special for us, and I'm hoping I haven't "oversold" the restaurant to my husband.

The menu has several items to pick from in each course, and you can substitute items between courses (if you were eyeing that buffalo and you wanted it instead of the fish course, they'll do that). Not sure what kind of preferences you are referring to. Can they do what you want with substitutions, or with doing things like leaving off sauces, or would it require their preparing entirely different dishes?

There are certain things my husband won't eat-like salmon and scallops. I was hoping they might have an alternative for that course, especially if they knew in advance that he doesn't like those items. I'm not really worried-I think he'll love whatever he gets, as the reviews are always great there. I'm just hoping it goes as well as I've sold it to him!

My friend has a lactose intolerance, so his personalized menu already took account of that, it didn't contain some things which contain cream, like chocolate ice cream, other stuff still was on the menu but the chef explained that they would substitute the milk or cream with something else for those.

And then there was a third menu on the table which contained vegetarian-only items.

So if your husband doesn't find anything he likes as a course in his menu, he can have a look into the vegetarian menu and maybe find something there.

If your husband doesn't like fish at all, you should inform the restaurant staff about this as soon as possible, maybe they can substitue some fish items on his menu as well if they have enough time.

shellfish does not like me. My menu did not have any shellfish options, although DH's did ( and he *hearts* his scallops and crab legs so he was a very happy camper)

when you have your phone consult, just let them know what your preferences are. and there are always at least 3 options for each course.

oh and be brave. I am NOT a huge tomato fan, but our amuse bouches included tomato ice that was actually very tasty. and everything is a small portion so you don't have to worry about wasting food if you only take a bite or two.

and LISTEN to the sommalier's suggestions. the man is a genius....( we are wine snobs)

you will NOT be disappointed. V&A is a must do for us every trip so much so that we budget our meals around it( we pay OOP 98% of the time)

Luckily next year we will most likely have an AP so we can get the TiW card.

The menus can be customized based on food preferences (to a degree). My d does not eat seafood - preference, not allergy. Her menu had no seafood on it, while mine and my dh's did. Dh didn't want game meats. His didn't have any; mine did (elk and buffalo). And so on.

Just let them know in advance.

There is also a full vegetarian menu available; items from which can be substituted for any course.

Basically, V&A will do whatever you want them to do. For the price that you pay, they understand that they have to give you options. Just tell them as soon as possible what your preferences are, and they will accomdate.
