DH & I would like to go to V&A's for a nice dinner. If we don't get into the Chefs Table, what is the menu like? I won't eat salmon, tuna or anything raw and don't like chocolate (weird, huh?) Is it a fixed menu with no choices or do we order a 5 -7 course meal from an ala carte menu?

Thanks

Hi! This is my review, with my choices, along with DH's choices. There are usually 3 choices for each course, although some have more, such as dessert and also the main course.

The price is $115 per person, plus tax and gratuity. You can choose to have the wine pairings also, which are $60 per person. If you have the DDE card, it will save you 20%, which basically pays for the card at that one meal!

I haven't eaten at the Chef's table *yet*, but I know that there are about 3 choices per course (as the above poster stated). You can actually have them take the things you don't like off the menu when you make your reservations. Just tell them you don't like raw food and chocolate, so when you are given your menu that night, you won't even see that stuff on the menu. :thumbsup2

I am allergic to seafood, so they took all the seafood options off the menu, so I couldn't accidentially order something that had fish in it. :goodvibes

Thank ya'll, I'm glad to know I have a choice, I'm not sure what I would do if I had to spend alot of money to eat raw tuna.

It's definitely still on my list to do. I appreciate it.

WildernessLodgeLover, you and I have the same tastes, you're choices sound awsome!

Dis-Wiz, did you call ahead for the undesirable items to be removed?

Thanks 2many (and really...is there such a thing as TOO MANY pets? I don't think so, LOL)

V&A's makes a point to accomodate. I am sure that if you call and tell them your dislikes, especially because they are not plentiful or even ridiculous, they will tweak the menu.

DH and I purposely chose different items so we could share. I liked EVERYTHING I tried. My DH will not eat Foie Gras, and will not eat veal OR sweetbreads, but V&A's is the type of place that makes stuff taste better than you can even imagine. You MAY just LOVE raw tuna if you tasted the way they prepare it! DH enjoyed it all.

Yes, we did call ahead of time. When you make reservations, approx. 180 days before hand (At least we did), just tell them what you don't want, and they will make sure that they will not add it to your *personalized* menu. :goodvibes

I gotta tell you, what a relief it was to have fish completley off the menu. There are so many things that I can barely pronouce, let alone understand what they are. I am sure you already know this, but they make sure you know exactly what you are eating when you order it, and when they place it in front of you.

They really go ALL OUT to make your dining experience perfect! That's why it is SO worth the money.

We are dining there again this summer, and I can't wait!!!

Thanks so much you all. I'm soo looking forward to it.

WLL, I went deep sea fishing a couple times and on one trip we caught some tuna. After seeing the "tuna shuffle" I just can't bring myself to eat one. It was really gross. Maybe if they hide it under something else:rotfl:

Hmmm, I have no idea what a "tuna shuffle" is...and I think I better keep it that way!

DH does not want to eat foie gras or any veal items, because of what we know about the process. I can't say I don't agree, but I also know I would be surviving on bean sprouts and lettuce if I thought about all the procedures that go into our food. That said, DH *did" eat veal sweetbreads and foie gras at our V&A dinner. he knew if he was going to try them anywhere, this would be the place.

But I know what you mean...because you saw it first hand...it is stuck in your mind!

Hello all.

My husband and I dined there last Sept. He was going through chemo and could not eat anything raw and I explained this when I made the reservation. I also told them he did not like tomatoes and they actually removed any items like this from the menu. For example, at the top of my menu there was a starter that was a tomato dish and on his printed menu, it was not even listed as an option. I thought that was a nice touch.

I am not sure I would ever go back to V & A. It was nice, don't get me wrong...but it did not knock my socks off. The presentation was much more impressive than the food and I have noticed that the menu does not change all that often. I can't really put my finger on it...but for the money, I am not sure it is worth the experience. We are foodies for sure, hence the reason for going, and it was neat to try...but I have had better meals for sure. Maybe I am the only one that has tried it and would not return. I did notice some people get a choc. card to take home...it was our wedding anniver. ..but we did not get anything like that. Maybe it was an 'off' night.

The best thing I tried was the John Dory fish. I loved it. I hope this helps.

My husband is not the type to get dressed up and go to a fancy dinner (he'd probably rather the buffets). However, I'd love to do this on our honeymoon just for the experience. He is a BIG eater and I heard the portions were rather small and for this price, I really am torn whether to do this.

Any help????

Not sure how to advise you - I've eaten in the main dining room twice - and loved it. We're going to the chef's table for our upcoming honeymoon - and we are really looking forward to it.
But - If your fiance isn't interested in getting dressed up and sitting down for a long dinner, then I suppose you should choose somewhere else. I think you should plan something you both would enjoy. How about the Calif. Grill? Men don't need a jacket there - but it will still be a nice experience - try to time your ADR so you are there during Wishes. :bride:

When your server comes over to you they ask your likes & dis likes first.

I HATE
Mustard
&
Blue cheese

There are many cources so there is a lot of food DH & I are big eater and are full at the end of this meal.

We have been twice & did the wine pairing both times

The portions may be small, but they are LOADED with flavor. Each course is created with perfection! It's like an adventure for your mouth  .

Oh, and I have received one of those chocolate cards before. We were celebrating my birthday. I am not sure if they are only given out for birthdays or not... (I would assume they could be given for any special event).

I have ordered the filet mingoin (not sure about spelling), and it was the best fliet I have ever had!! The sauces and seasoning were perfect! I also tried duck, something I would never normally eat, and I have to say, it was extremely tastey! I also liked how whenever I finished a roll, I would find another one in its place.:goodvibes The rolls were very good also. :thumbsup2

Also, guys, make SURE to bring a jacket! My dad didn't notice until the night of our meal, that he had left his jacket at home (a whole 1000 miles away!). So, after he had failed to find a jacket in any of stores at the GF, they gave him one to wear for that evening. Men are not allowed in without a jacket.

So how dress to the hilt are the women? I can't wear high heels, they hurt my back, and in Florida my hair has a mind of its own. :rolleyes1

I was at V&A last Tuesday night. What a fabulous time. My DH and I are big eaters and VERY adventurous. I did do the wine flights which well, let's just say, could be a mistake for some as by the 3rd glass I couldn't feel parts of my face. Maybe that made the dinner even better!!! We had PLENTY of food and it was all delicious. I recommend this to everyone who enjoys meals as an event and are into fun new experiences. My DH never orders dessert but did here and told the waitress that he doesn't do desserts and this was the best ever....he had the carmelized banana gateau. I will be back.

:cool1:

I saw many women dressed simply, in dressy flat sandals and simple dresses. I would not worry about that, really! As long as you have a skirt on, or even a really nice pant suit, and you are somewhat fixed up, it will not be a problem.

I had a really pretty zebra striped halter dress on, but I am glad I brough my little black "shrug" (small sweater) because I was a little chilly in there!

I do think it was an awful lotta wine! Not that I am complaining.....:headache:

The first time I went to V&A's I wore a simple black dress (down just below my knees), with heels. Then, last summer, I wore a silver dress (down to my knees), with heels. A lot of women also wear suits (nice pants, nice blouse). I have even seen some women get away with wearing floral capris (although, I wouldn't recommend wearing this. They looked a little undressed). My mom usually wears dressy sandals (no heels) which look very nice. :thumbsup2
