Victoria & Albert's Chef's Table - How dressy?

I'm headed to the World with two of my besties in a few weeks and we snagged the chef's table at Victoria and Albert's. We are really looking forward to a one of a kind culinary experience. I've started making my packing list and the one that thing that has me confounded is what to wear to the V&A's Chef's Table. I know the restaurant has a dress code. But I'm a dress girl -- I wear dresses almost every day and I'm not sure just how dressy I need to be. I know that a cotton sundress won't do. But are we talking a cocktail dress that one might wear to a wedding? A sheath I might wear to work? A date dress that is dressier than a sundress, but not as structured as a sheath, jazzed up with some jewelry? There are literally probably 50 dresses in my closet...help!

Ithink, in your example, you should pack you "date dress, some "fancy" shoes" & appropriate jewelry
Have a Wonderful Evening

I personally would wear a cocktail dress similar to what I was wearing to a wedding. My mantra is always its better to be overdressed than underdressed! But thats just me

Maybe this helps - men are REQUIRED to wear a jacket and trousers (no jeans)....I typically wear a tie as well.

Would your dress compliment this notion?

People on their way to V&A do not look like typical resort guests in Disney attire. Cast members (and many guests) smile and comment whenever we are coming/going to/from V&A because it is obvious that V&A was on the agenda.

V&A is a 'special' dining experience for most people, so they typically dress-up accordingly.

There is no obligation to dress this fancy, but isn't that part of what you hope to experience?

Don't you want to feel like a $million bucks if you are spending almost as much for one meal?

Maybe that's just me.

Go "Pretty Woman" and you can't go wrong. We go in September and are already getting ideas since it's going to be an event.

You are spending $300 or more per person for just this one meal.
Does that help tell you how to dress?
Have a wonderful time. It is lovely, expensive, and special dining experience.

Have you ever been on a cruise? We wore what we would have worn on a formal night on a cruise and felt perfectly at home. I wore a formal skirt with a silk sleeveless top with some beading. DH wore a suite and tie.

Actually a nice pantsuit or even dress slacks would be fine--it's what Mrs U always wears to V&A. I wear a sport coat but NEVER a tie.

And we've dined at V&A over 30 times now---

I believe I read on some other threads that at the Chefs table men can actually take off their jackets while eating--they make you put it on if you walk through the main DR but otherwise the Chefs Table is probably NOT as formal as the main room.

Which should not be a surprise since you are eating in the kitchen---

I'm going to hijack this thread over here because I have a similar question.

My new hubby and I are one week married! :lovestruc and he loves getting gussied up as much as I do, so he wants to wear his tux that he wore to our wedding when we go to the Chef's Table on Sept. 17th.

So my question is, do I go whole hog and pack my wedding dress to bring down with us? It would be nice to wear it again! And what better occasion really? ...But is that weird?? It would also be heavy to pack.

Is it a traditional wedding dress? Personally I would not be comfortable. I think that is overkill

Okay. That's kind of what I thought too.... and come to think of it, it's a fitted wedding dress, not a ton of breathing room. I want to be able to EAT if we're being served 525,600 courses. :rotfl:

There was a couple dressed in tux and wedding dress...a full skirt wedding dress during our last visit. This was in the MDR. I thought it was sweet and not out of place at all. I believe another Diser here wore her wedding dress there as well.

I've also seen full ball gowns and fascinator hats with feathers so high it looked like Cinderella's step-sisters.

The CMs of Remy were also dining there our last visit to train/experience (the CMs of Remy and V&A swap from time to time) and they were dressed up very nicely - suits, cocktail dresses, heels, etc.

So, fancy-wise, you honestly see it all.

Haven't been to V&A, but just ate at Remy a few weeks ago. I wore a silk maxi-dress with sparkly, low heel sandals. Dressy, but very comfortable which is what I need to be able to sit and eat for 3 hours!

So our 6th wedding anniversary DH wore his tux and I wore my wedding dress -- BUT it was a Jessica McClintock cream brocade. But I did get married in 1990. So yes to tux and maybe your rehearsal dinner or similar too dress.

I love doing V&A in waistcoat and tails, pushing against the line between black and white tie.

For a suitably supercharged ladies ensemble consider a close fitting floor length dress. Black or a rich color or metallic. Opera gloves add punch to a formal outfit but maybe better suited to a reception than dinner.

I probably wouldn't wear opera gloves during dinner service. Our wedding last week was black tie, though my husband wanted white tie. I told him most of our guests wouldn't know what it meant.

Anyway, I decided on a beautiful, fitted floor length purple gown. Thanks, all!

I wear either a cocktail dress or a full length formal dress, and DH wears a suit and tie. This October I'm planning on a black cocktail dress (not a basic one, either) with lots of big & bold Swarovski jewelry. I'm also wearing super high sparkly crystal studded heels. Surprisingly, more often than not, I see women in what I consider casual dresses and pants than dressier attire. It's a very expensive meal with impeccable attention to detail and service... go big or go home!!

I've worn gowns, I've worn dresses. A cocktail dress or sheath with some great jewelry would be perfect as would a dressier sundress. Just don't go casual.

Everytime we've gone to V&A, as soon as we walk into the area we are greeted by a CM who says "I assume you're here for Victoria & Alberts". They can recognize immediately that we are going there by the way we are dressed.

My number one recommendation: no waist on whatever you wear. You'll want the room. I typically wear a nice cocktail dress made from a soft knit fabric with no natural waistline.

Totally envious of the chef's table. Done main dining room several times and did QVR last year for the first time. Booked QVR again this December and I can hardly wait. Also heading out on the cruise and booked Remy dinner, brunch and dessert. Calls for at least two loose fitting, no waist dresses this trip.
