Heading to V&A in a few weeks. Was wondering if anybody has any experience with men not wearing a dinner jacket to dinner there? It says on their website that a dinner jacket is part of the dress code for men. I'm wondering if this is something they actually enforce? If I'm wearing dress pants, dress shirt, and tie with nice shoes will they turn me away?

Anybody who could chime in with their experiences, I would appreciate it.

1) Jackets (suit coat or sport coat or tux) ARE ENFORCED at V&A.
2) No jacket, no entry.
3) Ties are optional.

I do believe they may still have loaners, however bring your own. Will be much more comfortable. And if you don't have one, get one. At some point in the future your significant other will appreciate it, or you may need it for a wedding/funeral/job interview (all 3 are awfully similar.....) At the worst you should be able to pick one up at a thrift store for $5-10, and get a local tailor to properly fit it on your for a similar price.

All four guys in our party wore jackets. The other male patrons in the restaurant also had jackets on.

Yep, tie is optional, jacket is NOT. They may have a jacket for you to borrow.

They do have loaners, but do you wanna be the guy with the loaner!!!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

No shirt
No shoes
No jacket

NO SERVICE!!!!!!!

?? I don't know the OP's situation, but I'm pretty sure if he's going to V&A, he can afford a jacket and doesn't need to go pick one up at a thrift store.. Or lectured about having one for a funeral.. ugh

IMHO, I think he is just trying to get around the rules.

Yes. The jacket is required, and they enforce.

As noted, they MIGHT have a loaner jacket, not sure you can count on that.

I got a look at the loaner jacket area at V&A the last time we ate there.

There must have been 15-20 blue sportcoats on hangers.

But I'd just buy a cheap permanent press blue spotcoat and take that---
