Victim of CC fraud

OP here... My DH and I talked about it having to be someone local so they can pick up the merchandise... yes that is scarey, and I like your idea about the restaurants, we do eat out a lot!

However, let's say it was someone did lift my number from my cc at a restaurant... how would they know my address??

Are you listed in the phone book? Do you have one of those names that would be easy to know you have the "right one"? Is it possible that they took a statement from your mail box? Do you have one missing? Or was an envelope not exactly right when you did receive it?

Goodness, this makes me thing of more ways to keep an eye on my stuff.

If anyone has your phone number, they can figure out your address & a lot more by doing a fairly simple online search.
Go to whitepages.com & do a reverse phone lookup on your home phone...you'll see.

If they have your name, they can make an assumption that you live locally, put your name only in the whitepages search engine for your city & find your address that way. And if your name is somewhat unique, a searcher doesn't even have to have the city...just put in state & your address could be found.

They could even take a piece of junk mail from the trash...that would have your name & address on it. They could have drive by, taken a look at your neighborhood & liked the addresses. Lots of ways, unfortunately .

Yep this is why I shread everything that come in our names thats an offer for something.

I have all my CC and Bank statements On-Line only nothing comes to the house via mail.

Mailbox /trash accounts for 60% of identity theft ,20 % e-mail Phishing ,15% in house (store clerks stealing #'s ,Friends& family) and 5% on-line .

This was a report a few years ago I'm sure them numbers have changed a bit but not much .

WOW....I'm glad that you found the package first.

I actually read this several hours ago and decided to pull our credit reports. Thankfully everything looked correct. I check our cc and bank accounts weekly but I haven't reviewed the credit reports in 3 years.
