All the talk of girly men reminds me of one of Bill Maher's New Rules from last Friday (edited for language):

;)

New Rule: Everyone has to stop pretending that George Bush is macho. Because plainly, he acts like a girl!

Not a woman. A girl! Not a week goes by when John Kerry isn't attacked because he said something that hurt somebody's feelings. According to Bush spokespeople, Kerry lost the first debate because of his new insult to our allies when he said, "The coalition wasn't genuine. You know, Poland had Lithuania over that night for a debate party, and now they can't look at each other without crying."

All of the attacks on John Kerry involve his thoughtless words. Like when he said the Iraqi prime minister wasn't legitimate. The b!$%! He hurt the troops when he said Iraq was the wrong war at the wrong time! MEN! He hurt the Vietnam vets when he called that war a mistake. He is so not sitting with us at lunch anymore!

He's a girl! George Bush is all - "And another thing about John Kerry: he uses Botox! He spends too much time on his hair and he's two-faced. Flip-flopper!" "And I bet John Kerry didn't even deserve any of those medals. I would have gone to stupid old Vietnam, but I wanted to be a stay-at-home soldier!"

Excuse me, this president is resolute. He's on the rag. He stopped having press conferences, which is basically saying, "I'm not talking to you!" He acted all crampy at the debate: "It's hard work!" I kept waiting for him to say, "If you don't like how I do your shirts, then iron them yourself!" He even ran for president like a girl, promising to "restore dignity to the Oval Office." What man gives a rat's @$$ about restoring an office? A real man thinks the Oval Office lost all its integrity the day Monica Lewinsky stopped coming in there [beep]

And then - let me finish - and then in the one area - and I'm talking about Iraq here - the one area where he could use being a little in touch with his feminine side, he acts like the typical stupid male who gets himself lost when he's driving, won't admit it and won't stop and ask for directions. Always insisting, "Please, I know what I'm doing!"

You know, the only time - the only time guys like this learn their lesson is when their wives leave them. So, on November 2nd, I suggest we get a divorce.

I missed it Friday night so watched it last night. I laughed until I cried. I'm thinking of having a t-shirt made. 'President Bush is a girl!":teeth: ::yes::

Goodness you put on so much spin, I'm getting dizzy. In one breath you extol Cheney's ducking out of serving while slamming Kerry for not serving to your standards. And then to accuse Kerry of intentionally trying to get wounded? That's just sick.

I never extolled Cheney for ducking out of service. Put words in other people's mouths much? I was simply stating a fact that Cheney applied for and received a deferment. Nothing illegal about that, unlike draft dodging. Kerry initally followed the same path as Cheney, but you folks seem to want to overlook that. Kerry was NOT granted a deferment, so, by his own admission, he took the next safest route possible.

I'll let the record speak for itself as to the quality and frequency of Kerry's wounds relative to his "band of brothers". I've drawn my own conclusions, you're free to draw yours. The fact remains, the wounds were minor and he did invoke the "3 Purple Hearts and I'm outta here" rule. Doesn't take a genius to connect the dots.

What is a Bill Maher?

I have to stop by these political offering threads more often, heck, I just got quoted 3 times, in one morning, on one page. Sounds like I know what I am talking about, eh? :teeth:

I'll try another.....

I like President Bush.

Most sane men would get out after three purple hearts and he didn't give them to himself. You get to decide if the wounds were minor, huh?

And Cheney applied for FIVE deferments because he had important stuff to do.

This is just classic. I'm sure he was running around looking to get wounded. That's total BS and you know it.

How could it be BS when it is well documented that he invoked the "3 Purple Hearts and I'm outta here" rule, for essentially minor wounds? Some not even attained in combat. Don't shoot the messenger. It's all very well documented. I know the truth can be painful sometimes.

So if one of our soldiers today "invoked the rule" and got out after three Purple hearts, would you say he did not do his duty or was not a patriot?

I simply looked at the descriptions of the wounds. Actually, there is evidence of plenty of wounded wanting to GO BACK after their 3 Purple Hearts. You get to decide who is sane?

Whether Cheney applied for one, five or fifty is not the issue. He applied for and was granted a deferrment, like a lot of men were. Kerry did the same thing, he just didn't get granted one, so took what he thought was the next safest route possible to avoid combat in Vietnam.

Try to spin it any way you wish, Kerry's own words state what his motivation was.

As for the wounds, I guess 200+ Swift Boat veterans can be wrong?

You guys need to be careful about making Vietnam service a future requirement for President. You will rapidly run out of viable candidates.

I'd have to look at each case individually. Kerry was clear going in what his motivation was regarding combat in Vietnam.

I much less concerned with his motivations then as I am with his motivations now. How can you logically use your service in one "Wrong War in the Wrong Place at the Wrong time" as a reason to elect you to fight the "Wrong war in the Wrong Place at the Wrong time"? He has a much longer record of anti-war and anti-military-force activism. That's fine actually. But to then claim that you are the one that can be commander-in-chief when it really has been an anathema to your focus seems a stretch.

Where was the "pass" when Bill Clinton was torched by the right for deferments from service? And, yep, those 200 veterans who swore to things most didn't have actual knowledge means they were wrong. Do you actually think 200 guys saw his wounds? You know the "Swift Boat Veterans" have been discredited by many sources.

I'm not a guy and I don't think Vietnam service is essential to public office. I just think chickenhawks who didn't serve and their lackeys have no business disrespecting someone who served in combat. I live with a man who spent a lot of time time in the jungles of Vietnam. It changed his life forever - you can't begin to imagine. He won't judge anyone else's experience. Yet you feel you have that right!

So are you saying that there are some American soldiers in Iraq that elect to come home after recieving three purple heards that you would not consider patriots or did not do their duty? What, in Gods's name is YOUR criteria?

And how many days did you spend in "Nam"?

If the purple heart criteria includes "hospital stay" the military needs to change it.
