Hi DIS friends,

So I learned today that there are two pronunciations of Via Napoli in EPCOT. Is it "vee-ah na-poh-lee" (which is how I have ALWAYS said it but apparently there is another way.... 🤣 ) or do you say "vee-ah nap-ohlee," which I find sorta weird...would love to hear your thoughts! Also want to make sure I am saying it correctly. 💜

I have always pronounced it the way you do….but I have no idea if that’s right 😆

I also pronounce it your way, but every vlog I watch pronounces it the other way, so I’m pretty sure we’re pronouncing it wrong. lol.

Ok so hold on...how do we know the vloggers are right though? 🤣 I'd love to hear from a cast member who can confirm YES or NO. 🤔 Until then, I will continue to pronounce it incorrectly. 🤣 Old habits diehard, I guess....

Not saying that they can't both be correct but I don't remember hearing anyone in Naples pronounce it any other way than NA-poli.

In Roman Italian (considered the most refined dialect), emphasis is on the penultimate syllable. So:
Via, two syllables: VEE ah
and
Napoli, two syllables: NAPO lee

So, the following sentence ("Andrea, let's go to Via Napoli for Lunch"):
Andrea, andiamo a pranzo in Via Napoli would be pronounced:
ann DRA a, an d AM o a PRAN zo in VEE ah NAPO lee.

Growing up, there was a restaurant we would go to, called Napoli's. So, I always pronounced the one in WDW the same as they did - Nap-oli.

How something is pronounced can be a regional thing. Never really thought it was that big of a deal either way.
