Via Napoli : A VERY un-Disney moment

I just looked at the menu, to see if they had anything other than pizza - because I can't see eating an entire pizza myself :umbrella: - and that description does sound good, especially since it comes in different sizes!!!

I had the small and it was probably about a 9 or 10 inch pizza, just FYI. So a bit bigger than most "small" pizzas, however it ws pretty thin as well, so overall probably not too much more actual pizza than other places

I'm thinking that the pizza comes already frozen and all they have to do is pop it in the oven. Had a issue with a popular steakhouse here in nyc a few years ago, when i tried to order a medium rare steak and was told all they had was rare or well done. I told our server to just leave the rare one in another 10 minutes and she explained all they do is warm the food up, it comes already Pre-cooked. Well if your ever in Nyc, i know a great place that will honor the request and the food is awesome too!

Considering that Via Napoli features an open kitchen, and have extensively emphasized that they have sourced spring water of similar composition to that in Naples, Italy for the dough, have imported San Marzano tomatoes and mozzarella cheese from Italy and have recreated authentic woodfire pizza ovens, I doubt that pizza was "frozen" :sad2:

Maybe you should look at some pictures, or read some press releases before making that kind of statement.

That was pretty harsh. The ingredients could be "fresh" when they got them, but still made in a central kitchen and shipped out to be heated up.

There is an open kitchen, where chefs are tossing fresh pizza dough, with ingredients laid out along the counter before them, assembling the pizza's fresh to order.

It isn't harsh. It is factual and clear in the majority of reviews that have been posted, as well as the articles that that been published in the DisneyParks Blog.

See, now I really don't find this to be that big of a deal. They couldn't do it. I mean, they just opened, it is a "soft" opening and unless they were rude about it, I guess I just don't see what the big deal is. No offense! :hippie:

I would have still stayed and has the Margharita pizza! Yum!!!!!! :thumbsup2

No offense taken. It just seemed really, really odd that they couldn't just put prosciutto on a pizza instead of pepperoni.

Heck, one of the reasons I even wanted it is that I was stuck in Rome during the recent volcano activity in April and had a prosciutto and rocket (arugula) pizza each day. They were awesomely yummy.

I didn't even try to ask for the rocket but figured no harm in just putting prosciutto on a pizza. I was wrong and so left to go somewhere else. No drama, just wanted others to know of the experience.

From the amount of negative responses I received concerning my request for info on Via Napoli, it seems an awful lot of people are unhappy with their practices.

I have a trip, in 8 days, thank-you-very-much :rolleyes1

I'll be sure to head to the Via Napoli open kitchen and snap pics of the pizzas being freshly made when I'm there :thumbsup2

Burger King also makes their menu "fresh to order." They also have blogs and advertisements restating this. HOWEVER, those items are pre-made and simply assembled onsite.

A lot of food items at Disney are done this way. Ever been to Pizzeria Uno’s? Same thing. The pizzas are made the day before. The “chef” sprinkles some extra cheese on and heats it up in the oven.

As I mentioned in a previous post. I will be visiting Via Napoli in just over aweek. I will be sure to take pictures of the following:

- The dough being tossed and stretched by hand
- The sauce being put on
- The cheese being added
- The toppings being added

:rolleyes1

Or, you can visit a few other WDW websites and see GUESTS blogs and reviews showing all those steps.

Or you can look at this pic :thumbsup2

Ease up. Do you own this place? Do whatever you have to do. You can solve this thread by asking why you cannot add or remove a topping from a pizza.

I don't like people spreading misinformation. I could tell you to ease up as well as you are just as adament that the pizzas are pre-made/frozen as I am that they are fresh and made to order.

I think that it was exactly as the manager stated to the OP, they are in soft opening and they won't deviate from the menu.

I don't have an opinion, nor was I there, nor do I really care. Your comments were out of line. People were only speculating on what may have been the reason.

I do not understand their unwillingness to assist. Soft opening or not, this should not have anything to do with it. What did they do, hire a bunch of fry cook's from McDonald's? I mean seriously, if you are going to open a new restaurant in a place as busy as WDW, you must be prepared to have special requests. What if there is an allergy?

OP, I am sorry to read about your negative experience. Despite some of the other opinions, I disagree that a soft opening should play a part in their lack of customer service. Your request was very small.

Okay, really not trying to be mean, but I don't get it.

Why do so many people think it is a right to ask for things to be made differently then the menu says? Even allergies. Why not just find something you like or can eat? This is how my family has always dealt with allergies.

Really, not trying to be rude, but I just don't understand the whole thing.

Honestly, we're conditioned to think it's a right, as most places will be accommodating if asked.

And your simple solution doesn't always work. What if I feel like a Cobb salad but just don't like avocados? Why should I have to settle for another dish? I understand that there are cases where substitutions aren't allowed for some reason (tasting menus in nice restaurants, for example) but at a casual restaurant it would be odd.

I think you misunderstood me, I was not spreading misinformation, " I'm thinking" was personal Opinion or a suggestion to why the op could not have the pizza prepared his way. I'm sure the pizza is just as good, freshly made or frozen! If you insist it's freshly made, i believe it.It's really not worth getting all roughed up about. I hope you have a great time on your trip!!
