VGT cabin assignment question

Hello. My family is booked in a VGT cabin on the Fantasy. I checked to see what cabins are available for booking at this point since the VGT is no longer available. If category 7A, 6A, 5C and 5B are no longer available, does that mean we will be placed in category 5A or higher? Or will they upgrade other balcony cabins and put us in the lower ones?

They can do pretty much anything they wish. They may put you in a room that hasn't actually been booked yet. Or upgrade a lower category person to a higher one and put you in their room. No rhyme or reason.

We had a 7A GTY (not quite the same, but close), and we were assigned to a 4A.

There wasn't much left for us in May- we had a VGT and got a 5B

I booked my first VGT this afternoon and am really excited about what we might end up with.

It is totally random. You can really go by what you see left category wise on the website. They will assign you in a cabin that works for their inventory requirements. We have booked VGT on several cruises and were never put in a "bad" cabin.
