Take this for what it's worth...

I called today to inquire about the availability of 25 BCV points. The guide (not our usually guide) noted we own at VGF and ask if we had ever stayed there. He then said "Expect to receive a letter later this week that DVC considers VGF officially 'sold out'."

I just said "Oh really?" and left it at that. I wonder if, in reality, they may send out something that says the resort is 100% declared, rather than sold out, though I don't think I've received such a notice in the past with other resorts.

If the DO say it's sold out, my guess is the Poly would be available in short order. I would have expected them to announce Poly sales BEFORE they said VGF is sold out, though. Otherwise, you have no "active" resorts to sell to new DVC members. I guess we'll see what, if anything, happens. :rolleyes1

Disney Vacation Development can decide at any time to declare a resort "sold out." Bay Lake Tower had about 542,000 points (9.7% of its total) still unsold when it was declared "sold out" in June 2011, and Animal Kingdom Villas had about 249,000 points (3.4% of its total) when it was declared "sold out" in January 2014.

As of October 31, 2014, Villas at Grand Floridian had about 692,918 points still unsold, which is about 28.0% of the total number of points that can be sold to the general public. If sales continue at the same pace as in October, VGF would be completely sold out in about 7 months.

On October 28, 2014, DVD declared another 10 VGF vacation homes for the DVC inventory, meaning that 100% of the resort has been declared for the DVC membership (see this article). Although it would surprise me to hear that DVD declares VGF to be "sold out" in the next week, it would not surprise me if DVD alerts members to consider adding on now because VGF will be selling out soon.

I wonder if they use "sold out" for marketing and tell prospective buyers, "VGF is sold out but I think that I can get you some points if you buy now"!

They have a history of declaring resorts sold out to generate interest to sell the remaining points. They know they can still sell points later if they have them. They did that with VWL and then had to formally reopen sales due to the remaining volume.

I kinda wondered this too, but as Wil stated, this seems REALLY early to use that tactic unless they want to get the Poly sales going and want to clear out the VGF points ASAP. I f they wanted to unload them quickly, I suppose they could always do something crazy and discount them! Blah-ha-ha!!!:crazy2:

Well, the info I was told wasn't quite true. I received w post card in the mail today, as I assume most of you have, that stated VGF is almost 80% sold out so still a little way to go, just as Wil presented on DVCnews.

Just received card in mail today stating VGF ~80% Sold Out. And to call to add on. So they need us to buy more points. :confused3

We also received the card stating they were at ~80% last week. Yesterday, we received a call from DVC wanting to make sure that we had the info and wanted to know if we wanted to add-on. I guess they are trying to push the inventory hard to clear it this quarter.

Got the same card. Made me wonder if VGF isn't selling quite as fast as they expected. Or as fast as many of us were expecting?

This is a pretty small property (147 units IIRC) and its been on the market for how long now? A year? Perhaps I'm alone in expecting that it would sell out faster than it apparently has. :coffee:

They raised the price, most likely to slow it down. Poly isn't ready for sales yet, and they don't want any down time.

A couple of the Disney "news" sites had reported that when Disney announced its earnings They noticed DVC sales had slowed down.
