Sort of an odd question, but does anyone know if the mattress on the Murphy bed under the entertainment cabinet in the VGC 2 bedrooms can be removed and used on the floor in one of the bedrooms?

It can be removed, but I dont think there is floor space in either bedroom to accomodate it.

Possibly in the dedicated 2 bedroom, but I don't believe it would fit in the 2nd bedroom of the lockoff which is technically a studio and I am very confident that it wouldn't fit on the fllo in the room with the king bed.

We do have a dedicated 2 bedroom, but we were going to try putting it on the floor in the King bedroom. Actually the original plan was to take our twin air mattress from home to use in the King bedroom and I'm having second thoughts about hauling that on the plane, but now it sounds like that might not have work anyway. Hmm, back to the drawing board. Thanks for the info!

I've actually been thinking of doing the same thing! Is it much smaller than a regular twin mattress?

We stay in a dedicated 2-bedroom and bring a twin air mattress with us. We use it in the room with the two beds. It fits, but it is tight and we kind of have to climb over it. I think there is more floor space in the room with the king bed, so I would think it would fit in there too.

According to this answer on Disney Mom's Panel about Port Orleans at WDW, those murphy bed mattresses are smaller than a twin mattress by several inches either direction, and I would think that the murphy bed sizes are roughly the same across Disney properties in the US, though I could be wrong.

I'm hoping we can find a way to get the murphy bed mattress into one of the bedrooms, because DH and I are sleeping on the folding couch in the living room (we gave the bedrooms to our parents), so our alternative is going to bed at 8:00 along with our 2 year old!

We actually had pretty good luck using the cushions off the couch to make a bed on the floor for one of our kiddos and they easily fit in between the king bed and the windows or the king bed or the king bed and the bathroom wall with the opening to the tub. There wasn't enough room at the end of the bed. As long as we remembered which side of the bed the kiddo was sleeping on so that we didn't step on her in the middle of the night, this worked great! Of course, this only works for kids, I don't think it would be a very good solution for an adult.

If trying to put on the floor in the 2nd bedroom (not the lock off studio) It would work in the "entry way" into the room ~ the murphy bed mattress would probably fit there, too, actually as well as on the floor in the vanity area of the bathroom.

Yeah, I looked at some room pics again and I was thinking maybe we could squeeze it in between the window and the king bed, and just tell the grandparents in that room to be careful getting in and out of bed. The couch cushions might work too, thanks for the tip! Our 4 year old will be sleeping on the second queen bed in the other room, and past experience tells me that if we put them both in the same room or bed they will just wrestle and goof around instead of sleep. But I guess sticking them both in the queen bed is better than us going to bed at 8 pm, so I guess we'll just see what we can do with the mattress/cushions once we check in. It sounds like it definitely isn't worth it to deal with packing the twin air mattress, pump and sheets onto the plane, so at least this helps us cut down on luggage!

Will the 2 year old still sleep in a Pack 'n Play?

The only reason I ask is that if he/she will there is another solution ... the pack 'n plays fit nicely in the 3rd bathroom right off the kitchen. We did this for a few trips when our youngest would go to bed at 7:00 ~ 7:30 after returning to the room with hubby and I stayed in the parks a bit longer with the older kids. It works great, loved having a "room" to close a door on and then no one had to tip toe around when we returned from the parks later. We found packing a night light for this solution to be quite helpful.

The laundry rooms at OKW at WDW are also perfect for a pack 'n play or a small toddler cot or "puff-up" bed ~ we've done this many times, too. With 4 kids you learn to get creative ;)

He has slept at home in a toddler bed for almost a year now and he outgrew the full-size crib at my parents house several months ago - he will be in 3 in February and is also fairly big for his age - so my guess is he may not physically fit in a pack n play even if I can sell him on the 'novelty' of sleeping in it. But you never know, so I'll keep that in mind and check it out when we get there. I'm the oldest of 3 kids and that was difficult enough trying to find places for everyone to sleep on trips growing up, so kudos for figuring it out with 4!

We used an twin Aerobed many times, in the king room when we booked a 2BR DVC room. Using one of those might be easier then moving that mattress around into the bedroom. Actually, there were years we brought 2, and used one in the king bedroom and one in the other bedroom. It was a little easier in a dedicated 2BR, because there was more room in the 2nd BR, where the micro and refrig would go.

WHY would we need 2 Aerobeds in a 2BR DVC unit?? Well, there were only 6 of us, and no one would sleep in the same bed except DH and me. LOL. Teen boys won't share a bed, and we only have one DD, so se was on her own too, and the other DS is special needs (and slept with us in king room). Other years one teen boy slept on the pull out couch.

Well the twin air mattress was the original plan, since we already have it and both boys have used it many times with no problems. Plus, the youngest is potty trained but does still wet the bed overnight maybe once a month, so we figured that washing the waterproof pad and sheets on the twin would be much easier than dealing with an accident on a queen size bed. Also he is sort of a klutz and rolls out of his toddler bed all the time, so we thought the air mattress would be safer since he would be much closer to the floor...

And then I broke my left foot this past Sunday night, our trip is now just over 2 weeks away, and the ortho doc has given me very little hope of being in a walking cast by then. Wah-wah. Soooo...now we're trying to cut down on the carry-on luggage so that we have less stuff to deal with. Luckily my parents will be flying with us and my in-laws are meeting us out there, but we still have to take the boys' car seats on the plane to use during the flight and with Lansky's to/from SNA, not to mention the boys themselves and their backpacks with stuff for the plane ride, a carry-on bag with a change of clothes for the 4 of us in case something happens to the rest of the luggage, and then whatever carry-ons my parents have. Thankfully it's a nonstop flight and my dad has a whole bunch of Southwest drink coupons!

Unless the ortho doc has great news at my appointment this week and I can be in a walking boot, I think we're just going to have to make do with what is already in the room and not lug the air mattress with us. But that is helpful info! If you can fit regular twins in those bedrooms, that makes me think we should be able to make something work. I guess we'll find out soon...

I am so sorry! I would call ASAP and rent an ECV from an outside agency. Even with a walking boot, that amount of walking is going to be tough. I hurt my knee 3 years ago and even with tons of exercises for it every day and an hour on the treadmill, it won't take Disney walking. Tried last year and was completely miserable within a couple hours. Good luck . . . enjoy the trip one way or another!

Thank you! It's definitely not ideal and not how I thought our first trip to Disneyland would be happening, but we'll make it work. At least I can still do the churro carts!

I found a few threads recently discussing ECV and wheelchair rentals, so I'm weighing that against one of those knee scooters that have also been recommended. My main concern with the ECV is that I've heard other DISers say they can be difficult to control if you're not familiar with them, and I don't want to be that person accidentally banging into ankles and running over feet like I've read on some threads!

You could buy a cheap air mattress and have it shipped to the hotel, or buy one if you do your grocery stop at Target and then leave it or send it home with grandparents to have for future visits. You could also ask if the hotel will provide one of the sleeping bags they use for standard rooms that don't have a day bed.

Knee scooters are more trouble than they're worth when it's crowded. First the other leg will get tired and the knee you're resting on can get sore. And you have to be very aware of how much space is trailing behind you more so than with an ECV. If you can rent one at home try navigating a mall or grocery story with the knee scooter or a courtesy ECV to see which seems easier.

It does not take that long to get used to the ECV. I had never used one until we went to Disney after I hurt my knee. Just drive it around the hotel for a few minutes and you'll have it down. The hardest part it people stopping suddenly in front of you, but you just let go of the toggle and it stops going. Very easy. I promise.:goodvibes

I'm SO Sorry!! Ouch :(

I hope you have a magical trip even with the adjustments.
