So my DH's school district took back Veteran's Day. They said it would be a good opportunity to have the kids come to school and talk about Veteran's rather than stay home and do nothing. Although, critics are saying the board is catering to the parents who want to jump start their summer vacations.
I have a problem with this (and not just because DH won't be home that day to work around the house
). The social studies teachers in his school spend the week leading up to Vet's Day talking about them and even bringing in local vets to talk with the kids. And every Vet's Day, DH and I take our kids to a wreath laying ceremony. I always see local girl/boy scout troops there and other parents with their young families. So obviously plenty of people understand the purpose of that day.
I know there are plenty of days off in the school year. But Veteran's Day shouldn't be given up. Just my opinion though.
