Veterans Day 2014 in Disneyland. Yay or Nay?

My husband and I are planning to take our 3 kids to Disneyland again during Nov. Last year, we were able to go during the week, so it was less crowded. However, this year, we really don't want our son to miss any school. We want to go for 2 days. We are planning on Veteran's Day weekend (specifically Sunday 11/10 and Monday 11/11. Veterans Day falls on a Tues this year). Do you think these days are going to be insane? aaaaah!

They will definitely be busier than a usual weekend. We were there the week of Veteran's Day last year and it was pretty good. We'll be going around the same time, but we have the advantage of home schooling the kids. My wife's a certified teacher, so we can split any time we want as long as they make it up somewhere else.

One thing you can think about is talking to your child's teacher and getting "independent study" materials. That way getting behind won't be so big of a problem. Just a thought.

You've got me a bit confused on your dates. Veterans day is always November 11th which, as you've noted falls on a Tuesday this year. So presumably you're referring to Sunday 11/9 and Monday 11/10 - right?

We are going Veterans weekend. Same as you, trying not to miss too much school. Our school only has Tuesday off so the kids will miss on Monday and we will fly home on Tuesday (we are flying down Friday night).

I am going with the attitude that it will be crowded...especially since we are going on Saturday, Sunday and (a holiday for some) Monday.

I don't care....a crowded day at Disneyland is better than no day at Disneyland in my book! I think it will be important to go with the attitude that it will be very busy and we will plan on that.

Seems like some of the bigger school districts within driving distance actually have nice sized breaks in October so I am hoping many of those folks decide to visit in October and skip a November visit this year.

The So Cal select AP is blocked out 8-11th and the So Cal AP is blocked the 8-9th. The Deluxe and Premium are not blocked at all that weekend.

My instinctive guess is that the parks will be potentially crowded because that might be the first weekend when the Holiday decor and entertainment are up and running (assuming this year is like the last few years). The Avengers Marathon the following weekend has everyone unsure how things will unfold this year, but I'm guessing that the Holiday season will start sometime around the 11/7 or so.

A holiday weekend and a holiday will be crowded to some extent. I have been to DLR a couple of times in that time span and it was busy, though it might be slightly busier on some days than on others.

Here is the thing to consider -- the holiday/Christmas season will likely be unofficially starting right around in that time frame. I don't think the official season start date will be until at least 11/12, but my educated guess is that many (though not all) of the holiday season highlights and entertainment offerings will already be quietly going on when you're there (in fact, I think that Disney times it that way because they know there will be Veterans Day weekend crowds). And the holiday season things attract a lot of people to the parks. If things like It's a Small World Holiday, Jingle Cruise and the Jingle Jangle Jamboree are open, as well as the holiday parade and fireworks possibly happening, people will show up to see them!

Even if none of the holiday rides or shows were happening yet, the holiday decorations in the 2 parks will, for sure, be up by Veterans Day weekend-- and those alone are enough to lure a lot of people to the parks to check out what's new or different.

So I would just plan for it to be crowded to some degree or another. If the crowds fall short of your expectations, then that is a bonus!
