It seems like every vet practice we've been dealing with are not professinal. My mom's dog used to go to one vet that performed expensive tests that really weren't needed. The dog had a classic case of kennel cough but my mom had to pay for heart sonograms because they said he had a heart problem. He was even given meds for heart disease. This same vet also would charge different prices for the same medicines.

In November the dog was diagnosed with a cancerous bladder tumor. He had it removed by a specialist. We were told he would have to take chemotherapy drugs to prevent it form growing again. So the dog was on "chemo" when he started having bloody diarrhea 2 weeks ago. We thought the worst. It turned out the drug was giving him a bleeding ulcer. He was given antibiotics and Prevacid and is doing better. The second order of the "chemo" meds came in the mail. The price of the drug increased $20.00 just because the price fluctautes according to the staff. I finally looked up this "chemo" online only to find it is not really chemo but a NSAID, like ibuprofin. It would have been nice for this specialist to tell the truth about the drugs the dog was given. Stomach ulcers are common with NSAID but my mom wasn't even told the truth about his therapy. The vet said he probably won't have vomitting form the "chemo", that's all.

Also does anyone know where to buy pet meds for less thatn the vet. If I needed this drug, my copay would be 8.00 for 3 months or 70 cents for 30 days. So it can't be an expensive drug, just a money maker for the vet.

Try going to www.drsfostersmith.com

Doctor-Fosters&Smith web site.

We have ordered stuff from them and it is a little cheaper.

Hope this helps you.........feel sorry for the dog, and your mom. Giving an NSAID and saying it is a "chemo" drug......that is just WRONG.

Well, in a sense he isn't lying. Chemo really on refers to drugs....not just cancer drugs. The term has taken on the cancer relation in modern day use but.....techincally, he wasn't being dishonest.
That being said, it does sound like he was trying to mislead you and personally, I would find another vet. We love ours. We have 3 dogs and have never had anything but professional treatment from the doctors or their staff. And, I can usually get meds from my office just as cheap as a lot of the "discount" places plus no S&H. I'm sorry you're dealing with a sick pet....that sucks.

Oh, I think he LIED to them...he told them this drug would help the cancer to not recur...how could an NSAID do that????
Please get another vet.
