Very worried about Vero Beach Resort

Glad y'all came through in good shape, and encouraged about VB Resort's status. Continuing prayers for Hilton Head & the SC coast - looks awful for them.

Sometimes people that are not in mandatory evacuation zones just contribute to traffic jams by trying to evacuate when it has been determined by officials that their area should be okay. We live in the Houston area and during Hurricane Rita in 2005 we were living in a hotel while our new home was completed as we had sold our old home. At 10:00 PM one night the hotel staff called all of guests to a meeting telling us that the hotel was closing at 8:00 am the next morning because it was determined the hotel windows could not handle hurricane force winds. They locked us out! We were not in an evacuation zone. So we tried to drive to Austin Texas to where other family lived starting at 4:00 AM. We were on the road for 11 hours and still in Houston, all of 10 miles from our hotel. We realized we would run out of gas before ever getting out of Houston. So we turned around and drove drove 20 miles south to my DSIL's home and began getting it ready for the storm. DSIL and her family gave up trying to leave Houston after being on the road for 18 hours. It took them 30 minutes to get home.

When hurricane Ike came through in 2007 we left before the mandatory evacuation went into effect.

I was speaking with MS today and they indicated that HHI would reopen on Wed. At that time they didn't have a date for VB but it was posted on the VB thread that someone else was told VB was going to reopen on Monday. I was told the issue with VB was about road access to the resort so it sounds like they're doing well in getting roads cleared and reopened.

We are former Northeners. We moved down here back in 2004 between two really bad hurricanes and lived at WDW for a week each time.

We didn't evacuate because we have pretty much fortified our home and my husband was on call. During evacuations, traffic jams are a constant and it often takes hours to move just a little. I did want to deal with that. We live inland and were not under mandatory evacuation orders. We definitely would have evacuated if we lived on the island.

You just never know with these storms. Our next door neighbor did nothing to prepare and her house is just fine.

Most of our friends have power which is really surprising.

This makes sense, thanks!

We were staying at the Vero Beach Resort last week and were evacuated on Wed. It was a pretty easy process, on Wed morning they were informing guests that we may need to evacuate and then providing alternate lodging information. We had driven down from the mid-atlantic so started our drive back up a day early (scheduled to check out on Thurs). It sounded as if they were rebooking many folks at OKW.
They automatically placed the 32 points back in holding and I will call member services to have them moved to next Use Year.

Glad to hear it sounds like the resort will be ok! They said during the 2004? hurricanes they got flooded pretty bad.

HHI Will not reopen on Wed. That's completely unrealistic There's no power, the sewer system has been shut down, water is on a boil order. Most roads are still blocked by debris and the hospital is closed. Residents with proof may be allowed back on the island by then. (Note; the acceptable proof of residency pretty much means a time share owner won't count)
