Some of you might recall that our 12 yr old cocker spaniel, Lady, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure a few months ago. She had improved on the meds, but then in the past couple weeks she got worse. They put her on the max. dosage of Lasix over a week ago and she still worsened. I was worried every day that I'd get home and find that she passed on alone...this morning we went to the vet and xrays confirmed her lungs were filled with liquid despite the high dose of medication. We made the decision to euthanize her. Our vet, whom we love, felt it was a humane decision at this point...but a really really tough one.
She was my MIL's dog until 2 yrs ago when she moved and couldn't take her...we took her in at that point. Our baby, Winnie the bulldog, was not happy about it and it took a lot of time and energy to have a somewhat peaceful household, but Lady was a very sweet dog, didn't bother anyone...she was happy to nap, watch the cats and get a pat on the head.
A little prayer for Lady would be so appreciated. It's tough to stop crying.

I'm so sorry. Hugs and prayers for you and Lady.

Hugs and prayers for you, your family, her pal Winnie and for
Ms.Lady too!

:( :( :( You have me crying my eyes out! We just lost our 12 year old cocker spaniel, Bradie, in April and it was soo difficult! Have you seen the rainbow bridge poem? Let me know, I'll send it to you. It gave me a little peace in the midst of horrible sadness. Maybe Lady and Bradie are playing ball in heaven together right now.

Luvwinnie, know well that Lady, sweet as she is, is still watching the cats, so many now. She still catches those naps, and is waiting for that day for those pats on the head again. I know it, you know it. {{Hugs}}, Luvwinnie, always so hard to say goodbye, but good to know we will say hello again some day, to Lady......

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
I'm so sorry to hear this. I had a poodle who lived to be 19 years old but died of congestive heart failure. It was not unexpected but it still hurt :(

{{{HUGS}}}

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure Lady will always have a special place in your heart. My prayers for you and Lady.

I've grown up with spaniels, and I feel your pain. They're the sweetest dogs, and those big brown eyes just seem to fix on your heart and squeeze.
I know it's so hard at the moment, but the pain will ease and you will remember your Lady with fondness and pleasure.
Can I just point out to you the error my parents made? They missed their "Rolo" so much that they went out within a month and picked another springer. While he's not a bad dog, he is not what they would have picked if they'd had time to think about it, he's not too affectionate, he's a bit bad tempered occasionally, and so on. My mother has admitted that she thinks they got a new dog too soon.
Thinking of you, and the best of luck.

So sorry for your loss. I know the pain of losing your pet, having been thru it a year ago. I also have a dog with congestive heart failure on the same meds as Lady. I enjoy each day I have with him as I know his time will be coming in the near future. Hugs to you.

And sharing your loss.
It is never easy and part of you goes with them.

I hope the days ahead become easier....Here's to Lady:(

Thank you all so much. Yes, I know about the Rainbow Bridge...what a wonderful place.

I am so sorry. We lost our 12 year old cocker, Cookie, last December, from pancreatitis and liver failure. I still miss her every day. She was also blind, but it didn't bother her - she had the greatest disposition. She, Lady, and Bradie are probably romping together right now.

You are in my thoughts. So sorry for your loss, but know that Lady is in a better place now. Bless you in your time of grief.

I am sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose a furry member of the family. Try to think of the good times you had and how she is now at the Rainbow Bridge.
