What did the navagators say about wearing shorts to your regular dining room on tropical night? What did you see there?

Thanks guys!

We went last August. Both my husband and his friend wore shorts to dinner on Tropical night. They weren't alone and looked good with their tropical shirts.

The navigator, does say dress tropical, and it does say no shorts or jeans, BUT 90 percent of the people we saw, including us wore shorts. And we wore shorts on the last night as well, NOT A PROBLEM. Trust me NO ONE is looking at what YOU are wearing!

You will be fine. Wear that cool tropical shirt though....

We were there in March and the Navigator said no jeans - shorts are fine.

I wore pants and a tropical shor...I wish I had worn shorts..with sandals..it would have been fine for that night..and I would have been more comfortable...

The Navigator for the 5/1 Eastern cruise did say no shorts or jeans. I didn't wear shorts, but there were a significant number of folks who did. Do what you want. You're on vacation ;)

I am looking at the Navigator right now from the 5/1 Eastern cruise. Every night EXCEPT tropical night it says no shorts or jeans. However on tropical night it says nothing about shorts or jeans. We took that to mean that shorts were ok and we were right. Just about everyone was in shorts.

2kids--yep that's how we read it as well!!! We made the boys however wear long pants because once we slacked off it would have been murder trying to get them back in long pants the next night! There were several people in shorts. We had the LAPLAPL on early seating and tons of shorts.

Hmm... odd. I'm looking at mine right now and it says on the back:

Tropicali Dinner (suggested dress: Tropical Attire)

6:00pm 1st Seating Guests (no shorts or jeans please)
8:30pm 2nd Seating Guests (no shorts or jeans please)

Anyway, the point being, if you want to wear shorts, wear 'em!

I think, on another thread, we figured out that they never changed the back page of the Navigator. Someone said that the front page stated tropical attire (no jeans).

The Personal Navigators for the May 1st cruise do say "NO SHORTS OR JEANS PLEASE" directly next to the seating times for dinner. Shorts are fine for the deck party but Disney Cruise Line repeatedly asks guests not to wear shorts at dinner.

Here's a scan of the Navigator.

Western Navigator (from Dave's site)

I haven't seen a new Eastern Navigator, but on the new Western it says, "Suggested Evening Attire: Mexican, Tropical, Casual (No jeans please)".

If you want to check it out, go to the link above and then click on Wednesday (Cozumel) Page 1. It's right under that date at the top of the page.

Now I'm not saying that they condone shorts in the dining rooms, but it doesn't specifically say "No shorts".

Three Circles, would you mind scanning the first page of your Navagator also. Thanks very much!

Thanks to you all for your input. I don't want to start a debate, I just want to know what the navagators say and what you are seeing in the restaurants.

Thanks again :)

Actually, if you go to page FOUR of that navigator you'll find that it too says "NO SHORTS OR JEANS PLEASE."

You're right. I did see that on page four. I wonder if page one was really supposed to say "no shorts" also, but something got messed up in printing.

I'm not trying to start a debate. Just was wondering if they're changing the dress code on the Mexicali and Tropicali nights. I actually hope they don't because people might start to think it's OK to wear shorts every night. I like to see everyone dressed up. It is a cruise, not McDonalds.

Perhaps it was an oversight on their part. From my understanding, the Navigators are actually printed right on the ship. On occasion I've noticed other typos throughout them.

But, then again, perhaps they don't place it on the front page because they DO want people to feel free to wear shorts at the deck party and such. That may be why they specifically place the "No shorts or jeans, please" right next to the dining room times.

For what it's worth, my family skipped the first formal night on our 5/1 Eastern cruise because we didn't want to get "dressed up" that night. The next day I talked with our waiter who asked "Where were you guys last night for dinner?!!?" When I explained why, he declared: "Come to dinner!! No one cares what you're wearing!!" and I must say, from my experience, there is so much going on in the dining rooms, unless you come in your birthday suit, NO ONE is going to say anything to you, so go clean and comfortable!!

You're right about misprints Jason. Whatever day they have Disney Dreams I was reading the Navigator when our stateroom guy knocked on the door and told me that he had given me the wrong Navigator. He gave me a corrected one. The one I had originally had Disney Dreams at 2:30, 6:30 and 8:30. The corrected one said 6:30 and 8:30. So I guess even the mouse makes mistakes. ;)
