I just closed on 50 VWL points and I have to tell you it was a great experience. A big thank you to Jaki at Resales DVC.
I put my bid in on 11/2 and it was accepted and sent to Disney for ROFR on 11/9, passed ROFR on 12/3 and just yesterday (12/18) I got an email indicating that we had closed and I should have my points in about 7 days.
So all in all about a month and a half from start to finish, a lot less than I had expected.

Congratulations! We also purchsed a VWL contract through them this summer and had a good experience. I am so glad we bought reslae instead of through Disney. ENjoy!

Tell me the advantages of purchasing additional points through resale as we have never done this? Where can I find out more about this?

The advantage to purchasing resale is saving money, a lot of money. There are a few good brokers online who can assist you. We've used Jaki twice at www.**********.com and were very pleased both times. If you're not in a huge rush to complete your purchase, you can save 40% or more by purchasing resale. I actually saved 50% with my Saratoga Springs resale. Good luck. :)

If I bought the points from Disney, the cost for VWL would have been $101 per point. The cost going through resale was $77 per point. Since I am an existing DVC member if I bought through Disney I would not have had to pay closing costs, going resale I did, $450, so the total I paid per point ended up being $86.00, this saved me $15 per point.
Small contracts at the "sold out" resorts seem to go very fast, so you have to grab them right away, which I did. I knew that buying resale takes more time but I was fine with the wait.
The contract had 50 banked points, so this really worked out for me, as I want to book a 1 bedroom for next Nov/Dec.

You also need to add any cost you pay on the annual dues (MF) for the banked points. That would increase your total cost per point. When you buy direct from Disney, your annual dues for current year or bank points would be prorated based on the number of months or weeks or even days left in the year. Whereas you often have to pay the entire MF for any current year points (whether banked or not). Sometimes this cost can be negotiated and the seller will pay the MF fees.

Note: there are more than one resale companies out there, we used the TimeShare Store (see link above) and we were completely satisfied with the service Scot and company performed for us.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome home!

I was lucky, the seller paid the 2009 points and I pay 2010 points.

I bought my original contract from The Timeshare Store, 196 VWL points. It was so easy. It had banked points and I didn't have to pay maintenance, that was already paid (this was 2000 or 2001 I think).

Since I have added on three times direct from Disney, smaller contracts, but now kicking my self because I have four odd number contracts, 196, 29, 35 and 40 points each to total 300. Bascially I bought when I could pay cash.

But they are all the same use year and resort, so it is pretty easy, you just have to remind the CM to double check all contracts when booking, I usually ask that they use the smaller contracts first.

We've been noticing that many of the contracts where the MFs are being paid by the seller are being ROFR'd by Disney. So if any of you got your MF paid by the seller, congratulations. And a little pixiedust to those who have contract awaiting ROFR. pixiedust:

We were totally pleased with **** and Jaci also. Our timeline from offer to closing was less than 30 days and they handled everything wonderfully. We have not had addonitis, DH is totally in love with my favorite Boardwalk, so who knows when it could strike--we would definitely use them again.
Welcome Home!!!
