Have just broken my camera:mad: and its 5 weeks till I'm away.

Looking for a good compact digital camera for all my Disney photos, especially seeing as it's DGF's first trip :) - Price doesn't matter if its good.

Anyone got any recommendations? :confused3

Go you want a photography camera, or just a decent snapshot camera?

This is what we have:

And its really really good!! I wouldn't have it down as a prize winning photography camera, but it is a very good all round little snapshot camera.

I have a Fuji Finepix F45fd - love it, its compact, easy to use, and the battery life on it is great too (and it was on special offer in Argos when I bought it :thumbsup2 ).

I've just upgraded to a Panasonic Lumix FS20... quality's fantastic, easy to use, nice big screen. I had a Panasonic Lumix DMC FX10 and I will never use anything but Panasonic for Cameras, amazing quality.

I have a sony cybershot, great compact camera just wish i knew what all the fancy functions did.

I've got a fuji finepix F40fd and it takes good pictures. My mother has just upgraded hers to the same as mine.

I have a fuji finepix S8000 as it has an 18 optical....I love it but its a bit on the big side, it defo wont fit in your pocket! You can get them for about £150 now

My husband has the fuji finepix S5700 it has a 10 optical...you can get them for about £90 now (again a bit bulky)

We both really love these cameras and can't recommend them enough! In fact I persuaded my cousin to buy one (S8000) and she is so chuffed with it!

oops just saw you want compact, I wouldn't get what I said in that case, sorry!lol

I've always had Olympus cameras but recently invested in a sony and I have to say it is superb, the menu is pretty simple, the shutter lag time is really fast and the picture quality is amazing. I used a great free camera website which is full of reviews and recommendations before making my purchase, am I allowed to post the site here do you know ? If I'm allowed I'll post the link as it really helped me and it reviews every aspect of a camera and allows you to compare them.

We bought a Sony A200 a week before we went away as our camera finally gave up on us. Have to say the quality we got on our photographs was brilliant, well worth the extra money we paid - still learning most of the settings though!

Hiya

Just asked my DH who works for Jessops and his recommendations are:

Panasonic Lumix TZ5, small on size, good size 10x optical zoom and Panasonic Lumix FZ18, bigger in size but an 18X optical zoom.

I have a DSLR but am also now looking at getting a compact camera too. I really like the look of the Nikon s210 which is now£99 in Jessops.

My advice would be to go to a shop like Jessops & have a play about with the ones you like before you decide:thumbsup2

You may want to try the Dis Photography board.

There's lots of very knowledgeable people on the subject of cameras and there's usually a number of recent threadds on what camera should i get

I have a Nikon D80 DSLR which i love and my back up is a Canon S3 IS as a point and shoot.

I would put a vote in for this one, bought my wife the model before this one and she loves it, able to point and shoot and still do clever stuff with it. Always bought Fuji and have never had a reason to change.

Can you do that? I know that Argos don't let you unless it is faulty. IOf you can that is great

Nice one and with a 4 GB card you can take quite a few pics eh?:rotfl: Out of interest what made you buy that one?:cheer2:

Lets just say I will. The term "unwanted gift" usually works :) I don't think I've ever left a shop without the refund that I've wanted :) Hopefully I like it though :)

I went for it for a few reasons - Picture quality is great at 12m megapixels (and the lag time isnt bad) - Yeah, its not a looker but its overall performance seems good for the price :) Also with a 12m megapixel camera you get clear prints even on A3 and A1 size canvases (thinking this would be a nice present for DGF as its her bday and first visit to DLRP).
