We went through a box of slides at my parents' house over the weekend. Here are a few from Nov. 1978 - my first trip to Disney World. Check out how few people are there - and all the older people seem to be almost dressed up!

I'm not sure what the parade was, or even who all the characters are - who are the clowns with Pooh? I love the Hunny pot on Pooh's head! And I was getting my picture made with Baloo. I was surprised to see kids getting autographs even then. I thought that was a relatively new thing to do.

Hope you enjoy my blast from the past! :3dglasses

Oh yes, the characters signed autographs and that was during a time when a character might just pop up anywhere. There were actually separate stores with separate purposes along Main Street too.

I love the train. I don't remember the clowns.

What cool pictures!

I just hope that white and blue clown doesn't haunt my dreams tonight.:scared1:

People aren't dressed up....those were leisure suits! Today, people wear sweat pants to the parks. I'm not much better....but it is darn hot out there in July!

Please post more! SO COOL!

It's not my thread but I LOVE these types! If the OP doesn't mind, I could post a few from 1972, 76 and a scan of an old postcard book that we got in 73.

A few changes made for the better, I see... like getting rid of the creepy clowns! :scared1:

Very neat photos! I love seeing vintage WDW. :) It's so neat to see how much has changed, and yet at the same time how little.

I remember getting autographs back in the late 80s/early 90s, and I remember it being a hunt, so it was special when you did find one! I do miss that. The character meet and greets have lost a bit of that magic, and many people think adults with no kids (like me) waiting in line to meet a character is strange. :worried:

Where in the park are these pictures from? Is that grey building where the floats and horses are kept in between the fire house and haircut building?

great old photos, thanks for Posting!

Take a good look, its a cloudy, cool day , most likely in winter, notice the jackets! Winter in those days the parks were not very crowded like today!

OP here - glad you guys enjoyed the blast from the past! To whoever asked, go ahead and post more. This is all I have. We were going through slides and when these popped up on the screen, I grabbed my camera and took pictures of the projection - not a very good way to capture them, but the least amount of trouble. Back in those days, you didn't take a million pictures of every single thing you saw, since it was expensive to buy film and expensive to have it developed, especially slide film.

Yes.

I find it interesting to see how simple the parade floats look. They almost look like something built for a small town 4th of July parade. The wheels/undercarriage on the train floats look like a child's large wagon.

Again, very neat. Thanks once more.

OK, OP....I just didn't want to hijack your thread. And honestly, I don't have that many either. As many trips as our family made I was only able to salvage a few and scanned them.

Here are some scans of the postcard book and pics I recovered of way back when Leisure suits were the equivalent of sweat pants. You never see Leisure suits posted on People of Walmart, though. ;)
