I have purchased 220 for SSR. After reading some of the posts. I question my decision some, this is a lot of money for me. but anyway.

Question 1: Is it easier to get a studio vs a 1 bedroom. Most of the time it is only myself and my college age daughter.

Question 2: It sounds like it is hard to get reservations in general, how long of a lead time do I really need, general time of year we like to go would be mid Feb and last week of may to first 2 weeks of June. Do I need to call 11 months ahead really. Thats not easy.

Question 3: SSR is there something wrong with this location, I mean, I have been to WDW a lot of years and should have bought years ago. I like to stay at Port Orleans Riverside type hotel, not super fancy but we like it. I always rent a car so transportation is not an issue. So I guess I have seen that a lot of people who don't want the new SSR offers, is it just about price?

I guess I am worried about even purchasing now. I seem to see a lot of negative on this board about things that people don't like.

So help me understand how it REALLY works, not the fluff I heard before, did I act to quickly?

Thanks

Welcome Home and congratulations on your purchase! We have been members since 1995 and to tell you the truth--it has been the best money we have ever spent. No it is not a cheap purchase, but you will get tons of memories and great vacations.
We have always been able to book rooms when needed, but we usually book within 7 months of travel. I have almost as much fun planning as the vacation itself. Unless you go during the holidays or when the points are really low you shouldn't have trouble booking rooms--I think a lot of people have more problems getting GV (because of limited supply). But with your home resort you have the 11 month window to use and then at 7 months you could book any resort. Your mid Feb- gets you into President's week a busy time, you will probably need to book early. We usually book 1 bedrooms, but have stayed in studios also.
We added on at SSR and are looking forward to our October stay (1st time). We have stayed at all of the DVC resorts and love them all, they all have their own special qualities. Every one will have their favorite. Enjoy your DVC home and take time to experience all of them. One of the nice things is that there are 5 DVC resorts to chose from, so in most cases there should be availability in at least one of them at 7 months or less.
I hope this helped.
Paula

My husband has no desire to stay any other place than SSR. We have plans for our 3rd trip home to SSR. I think that you have to overlook some of the negative comments as they are just personal dislikes.

I agree with Paula from above when she says "Enjoy your DVC home and take time to experience all of them. One of the nice things is that there are 5 DVC resorts to chose from, so in most cases there should be availability in at least one of them at 7 months or less"

It will be fun and you will not regret.

Question 1: Is it easier to get a studio vs a 1 bedroom. Most of the time it is only myself and my college age daughter. Actually, 1 bedrooms are available later than studios because of all the folks who rent out studios.

Question 2: It sounds like it is hard to get reservations in general, how long of a lead time do I really need, general time of year we like to go would be mid Feb and last week of may to first 2 weeks of June. Do I need to call 11 months ahead really. Thats not easy. For SSR, that is not necessarily true, because it is a lot larger than many of the other resorts. You should do fine as long as you call before the 7 month window opens up.

There is nothing wrong with SSR or it's location. It is just suffering from the early years like any resort does when it is still under construction.

I guess I am worried about even purchasing now. I seem to see a lot of negative on this board about things that people don't like. If you look for the negetive, you will find it, but there is far more positive about DVC than negetive.

So help me understand how it REALLY works, not the fluff I heard before, did I act to quickly?

In reality, you probably didn't act quickly enough, just like many of us here on this board! Most of us will tell you we wish we would have purchased much sooner than we did! We first learned of DVC in 1992 and didn't purchase until 1997, and missed the free passes! Yep, only mistake we made with DVC was not buying soon enough, and buying too few points the first time around. We quickly rectified that by adding on 150 points a year after our initial 230 point contract.

We bought 225 points at SSR last year. Like you said, it's a big purchase. We could've bought a new car. (I have a '95 Nissan Quest--low mileage, but old!) All year we wondered if we did the right thing. Well, we just got back from SSR and LOVED IT! :thumbsup2 We got to attend the EE preview as DVC members--what a blast! We made our reservations at SSR 3 months in advance. The only place that was not available for a 1 BR at the time was Boardwalk Villas standard view. We got BWV standard view for mid-June at 7 months out, which I thought would be impossible based on these boards. We are very happy with our DVC purchase and look forward to trying all the resorts, although we would be happy staying at SSR every time. :goodvibes

Ok to tell you about the availability. We bought last year at the end of October. We actually called I think the very last few days of October and booked a one bedroom for Sun-Thurs for the week after Thanksgiving (literally 4-5 weeks out) and got it no problem.
