I think I need some sort of comparision tool of all the RCI ships - I'm so confused! DH and I just decided to do a short cruise for our anniversary next year (May 2015) instead of a WDW/Universal split for a few days. I know next to nothing about cruising. We're looking at the 4 day Caribbean jaunts (either Majesty or Enchantment) - what are the big differences between the 2? I don't think we'd want to do a longer one because I'd still like to have a couple days of park time.

I've only been on one cruise (as a teen) and DH has never been.

Majesty of the seas? I didn't think that ship was still sailing under RCL. 1st cruise I ever went on was on that ship. That was nearly 20 years ago. I can't recommend that ship for a 1st timer. It's nothing compared to the new ones.

Yikes! OK - this is what we were looking at: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/finda...ilitary=&hasSenior=&date=201505&cruiseType=CO

Would Enchantment of the Seas be better? It looks like it had a refurb. I don't know if we'd want to go longer than that with the kids at home.

ETA: There's a 7 day on the Freedom in May - would that be way, way better? We could maybe (gulp, about the kids) do that and give up our park time.

I would say the enchantment is better RCCL is updating pretty much their entire fleet :)

Check Liberty out of Fort Lauderdale it might be running 4 nights it does sometimes Liberty is in the Same class as the Freedom of the Seas :)The Freedom class is a LOT bigger than Enchantment so you know :)

Wow that's the one. You can't compare the two. I've never recommended DCL because of the price but this would be the first time.

The Majesty is a very small ship. It's about 1/2 the size of average ship in use today. Seasickness could be a concern on it.

My coworker went on Majesty once as a graduation gift for her daughter. It was her second cruise; she'd been to Alaska on Serenade the year before. She did not like Majesty at all, saying it wasn't very "majestic!" I have no desire to be on that ship.

On another note, my inlaws like Enchantment.

It's not that it's a bad ship, it's just old. That ship was built in the early 90s. So much has changed since then.

I will give it one thing. It's easy to get from point a to point b. Then again it's tiny.

Unless they overhauled them, the rooms are very small. I'm talking four people in a room half the size of All Stars Music. It was nuts.

It depends on your expectations- one of our best cruises was on the NCL Sea right before she was transferred to Asia/India. She was miles smaller than the newer ships but the old ships have their own character and charm as well! If you are looking for the new features, than limit yourself to the newer (and more expensive) ships.

OK, I *think* I've talked DH into the 7 day Freedom to East (? The one with St Maarten and St Thomas - I'm bad with directions) Caribbean. How does booking work? Do prices fluctuate, or is it a "book whenever" kind of thing? I don't necessarily want to book this far out (over a year) in case we change our minds or something, but the price is great ($1400 for the 2 of us).

The prices on RCI do fluctuate, in fact there's a sale going on right now with very good prices. We are doing Freedom in May of 2015 as well :thumbsup2

Don't be afraid to book early. You have to make a deposit ($250 per person) but you'll have until 75 days before you sail to change your mind and get all your money back. The earlier you book the better choice of cabins, etc you'll have.
