Very negative POR report

I am shocked to hear of problems with the cleaning service- we have stayed at many hotels all on property and POR is our all time favorite!! We have had such wonderful perks and service and clean, clean rooms. I do agree housekeeping is slow to respond for pillows and such but we love the POR and have been 4x and counting.

Are one of those 3 children under the "crib rule w/5 rule"? Someone here will know but I think you can have 5 in a room if one child can sleep in a crib???

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's experiences at POR. We stayed there 3 years ago and loved it. No problems with cleanliness at all. With a family of 5 your moderate resort choices are limited since POR is the only moderate resort that will allow 5 to a room *unless* you have a child under 2. Just MY opinion but I think you can run into a bad experience at any resort. No matter where you stay if there is an issue you need addressed like cleanliness I wouldn' hesitate to complain and make sure they rectified the situation.

We've been to POR twice now. Was my room spotless? No, probably not. But it was clean enough for me. My suggestion...check out the room before you unpack. If it is unacceptable to you, ask to be reassigned another room. As to the numbers of people in a room...I have read someplace that you can request a cot, for a charge. Would this be possible if you stayed in Magnolia Bend? We have stayed in both sections. While I love the landscaping in AB better, I really love the rooms in Magnolia Bend. The sink/counter space issue wasn't an issue for us. Found it to be fine. I really don't like having my toiletries scattered around the actual sink area. If the rate is good, maybe a switch to an AllStars would be a good idea. It might be nicer to have two bathrooms, two TV's, four beds. Then the adults could stay up while the kids slept. But, I would certainly be comfortable being at POR. You can have less than perfect housekeeping anywhere...as you can see from these threads!!! Above all...don't be stressing here. This is a vacation at WDW!!!! Have fun planning and visiting.:D

We're a family of 5 and have always been told by CRO that they only allow 5 to a room in the Alligator Bayou section of POR. I was kind of bummed at the time I reserved it but we really liked it there. Very peaceful and we had a short walk to the food court, the bus stop, and it was just a zip around the corner to the parking lot when we took our rental car somewhere. Things may have changed by now so perhaps they will allow 5 in the Magnolia Bend section? Just me, but I have never understood if the rooms are the same size at the moderates why they don't allow 5 to a room at all of them? I understand not stuffing 5 adults in a room but when there are only 2 adults and 3 young children it? Sorry to get off topic. Just a pet peeve of mine.

p.s. Goofy4tink - very cool you are from central Ma. That's where I was born and raised before moving south. I get nostalgic when I think about it :(

My understanding the AB section has a trundle bed for a fifth person. The mansions sections do not.

Goofy4tink - I agree with you about the housekeeping issues. I have read more good than bad so I think we'll give it a try. All Stars will cost us more and the grounds at POR look beautiful!!

I don't mean to be offensive, but is your friend the type of person who is used to staying in "high end" hotels? Because, as cute and quaint as I think the AB section of POR is, it's not equivalent to a "high end" hotel.

The idea behind the AB section of POR is a rustic, Southern bayou type of flair. That's why the patchwork quilts and the sort of rustic-y looking furniture. I have stayed there several times...it's actually my favorite of the moderates...and I've never had a problem.

My advice to you would be that if you have a problem, call the housekeeping/engioneering dept first. If the problem isn't fixed to your satisfaction within 24 hours, then go to the hotel manager.

No offense taken Disney Doll. I really don't think that she is used to high end hotels. And actually we work at The Disney Store so we are all very enthusiastic about everything Disney so I was very surprised to hear anything negative at all!!

I've been looking at the pictures again and I agree with you about the room decor, I guess maybe she didn't know what to expect in advance. I do thanks to all of you on these boards!!

We were at POR Jan 15 to 21. We stayed at Magnolia Bend. Our room was great. Our room was very clean and the service was wonderful. The first morning we were there my grandaughter spilled chocolate milk allover the bed. We stripped the bed and left the housekeeper a note saying we were sorry, along with a tip for their trouble. Everyday after that the housekeeper did something fun with granddaughter's toys. One day the TV was on to cartoons and the toys were "watching and eating Doritos" Another day they had our Birnbaums WDW book open "reading it".
The room was always clean when we returned-sometimes very early in the day. We ate at both the Cotton Mill and Boatrights. Both were very good. We also swam at the quiet pool and PORFQ Dabloon Lagoon. Even though the weather was a little cool, the water was very warm.
The only negative of our trip was the walk. They had the walkway shortcut around the pool the food court closed off. Was not a big deal though.
This was our first time at POR, but we will definitley go back.

A good eating tip my wife and I discovered was to eat at Boatwrights for breakfast. The food count is fine but it is a self-serve then stand in line. We prefer to sit down. The tip is that the breakfast serving are very large and varied at Boatwrights. We would order one breakfast and split it. My wife still did not finish hers and being the pig I am I did. This was a nice change to sit down and be waited on for probably less than the self-serve food court..smjj
