I just bought the WW book called "Coach Approach: How to motivate the thin you." on Amazon.

I LOVE this book!

Anyway, there was a weight loss study done and they found that the 88% of sucessful dieters (meaning they kept the weight off) dieted and exercised to some extent after the diet (made it a lifestyle.)

They found that they (women) ate an average of 1297 calories per day and exercised to burn aprox. 2000 calories per week to maintain.

I love looking at numbers like this....it gives me a real picture of what is needed to lose and keep it off. I am a very concrete evidence sort too.

Anyway, I thought I would share.

You do have to make it a lifestyle. That is why it is so important to find a plan you can live with.

The calorie numbers are alarming though. That means if you don't exercise you need to eat 1011 calories a day in an average week just to maintain, that does not sound right to me. Every website I have visited says I need around 1500 to maintain and less than that to lose, this is without exercise. I am 5'0" and weigh around 122 now.

Make sure you find out the calories you need, not the average needed calories. You don't want to put your body into starvation mode.

I was a bit surprized by the numbers too. I wonder if people didn't report quite accurately. I know I can eat between 1100-1200 per day if I am RIGIDLY counting calories and lose about 1 pounds per week if I exercising 4 times per week.

I am 5 feet tall too.

How much did you lose? I need to lose about 50 to be at low goal. I have lost 20 so far.

Since last year I have lost 20 pounds. I lost 15, gained 10, lost 10, gained five, lost 10....so it has been a struggle. I think I have now found a place I am happy. I would like another 5 off, I weighed in yesterday and am down to 121. I am at a point where I am losing .5 to .75 a week. I do evening weigh ins. When I weigh in the morning my numbers are better, but I am prefer to look at the high end;) I was losing 2lbs a week, but have slowly allowed myself treats. I work out on weights 2 days a week, 40 minutes. I try to walk 8 miles on the weekends and to walk 2 miles each day during the week..weather and work schedule permitting. This week I will be lucky to get 2 days in.

My highest weight was somewhere around or over 170, I never weighed unless made to at a Drs office and the last visit I had, before losing, the nurse didn't even finish the weighing and just wrote down a number. I think she didn't want to hurt my self-esteem. It was one of those old drs who had an office in his house. This was when I was a Junior in high school. I gained after that time. I lost weight without trying due to diabetes, then sinus issues. Bad way to lose but it got me started.

You are doing great with 1lb a week. Keep up the good work. Glad you found something that is working for you.
