I've had an ear ache for a few days hoping it would go away, but it hasn't. I don't have a PCP so I opted to go to the Minute Clinic and it was so convenient! About a 30 minute wait, but the nurse was very pleasant and did not waste time. She diagnosed my ear infection and wrote up a script. She sent the prescription electronically to the pharmacy (if you want to use CVS) so I could pick it up quickly.

This was so much easier than dealing with trying to make an appointment, taking time off work or an extended lunch break, crowded waiting room, etc.

The best part is you know UP FRONT what the cost of treatment is!

Very impressed! :thumbsup2

Never heard of it. I was not aware nurses could write scripts. :confused3

I've heard of it, but wondered about the nurse thing also. Maybe it was a nurse practitioner:confused3???

They are only in certain CVS stores and part of a "retail clinic" trend.

I believe they are actually staffed by a nurse practitioner, but it all depends on what state you live in. All I know is she wrote me a script for an antibiotic "Z Pack" and some ridiculously expensive ear drops!

Just googled it....looks great.

MinuteClinic
Quick. Convenient. Health care.
We’re doing what we can to make health care a little easier for people with a lot going on. Our board-certified practitioners are trained to diagnose and treat all the stuff going around right now. And we offer health screenings and vaccinations to help you stay healthy all year round.

No appointment necessary
Open 7 days a week
Most insurance accepted

It does look quite convenient. May be a good alternative for Sunday visits for something very minor instead of going to the ER or Urgent Care.

ME TOO!!! I had to go a few months ago because I had strep throat. They were quick, nice and had the testing culture right there, so I found out right away that it was strep and got a Rx. Thumbs up from me too!

Another one that was impressed. I went a couple of months ago for a sinus infection. Wrote out all my scripts and sent me on my merry little way.

My boyfriend went to one last Tuesday because he had a bad earache and the nurse practitioner gave him the wrong meds for his ear infection. He didn't get any better so two days later we went to a doctor that we had seen in the past. He was outraged when he saw that she had given him the wrong antibiotics and he said that the local Minute Clinic closest to him always sends patients to him because they can't figure out simple diagnosis. In other words they are scared to prescribe the right drugs and instead underprescribe or they don't treat them at all. DON'T GO TO ONE!!! My boyfriend could have had his eardrum busted because of this.

It is a Nurse Practitioner in the minute clinic... I graduate in 2 months with my nurse practitioner and have been told to apply for the minute clinic but unfortunately we do not have any here....

OP I am glad you had a good experience.... I hope you feel better soon

I've had that happen at a REAL DOCTOR'S office... good Lord.

I LOVE Minute Clinic. I was unemployed and uninsured for a year and they were my saving grace! They saved me from my horrendous sinusitus and one really bad ear infection during that time. The one time I took my son for strep they couldn't see him because it was something they couldn't take care of. It wasn't a problem, they sent me to a great medical place that took care of him.

Another Minute Clinic fan checking in:goodvibes We had a great experience there last winter when I thought my DD12 had an ear infection. Turns out she didn't and I got my flu shot while I was there. They even took our insurance and there was no wait. I would go back if we were sick during the weekend:thumbsup2

Another minute clinic fan here, when I can't get in at my doctor's office I head straight there. They take insurance and the wait has all ways been minimal.

My sister and I are both Nurse Practitioners. She works in a Little Clinic- same as the Minute Clinic but located in a Publix. I think the retail clinics are a fantastic idea!

I also like Minute Clinic. I've been twice myself. Same cost for me as it is for me to see my PCP, so for me a $25 co-pay. (Urgent care would have been $50 I think). I took my MIL last year, but the nurse practitioner declined to treat her as outside of their rules due to age and possibility of needing xrays to diagnose pneumonia/bronchitis, which they don't have. So she sent us to an urgent care and didn't bill us for the advice.

Walgreens has their own Walgreens: Take Care Health free clinic.

In NYC, Duane Reade has their own clinics in some of their drugstores. They have a brochure to look at, so you can see & compare the fees. Much quicker and easier than going to the E.R. or your doctor. They DO take insurance, but if you don't have any, you can see the list of fees and then decide which and how much service you want.

I've done the CVS clinic and my son did the Walgreens clinic when we were last in Orlando.

Walgreens does not have clinics around here so CVS is our only choice. I always seem to be sick over the weekends so that is my first choice.

I've had great experiences with them.
