Very impressed with sW VISA

I am the OP and I should be on a SW commercial. On Friday I was able to book both DH and I down to TPA (had to fly there via orlando due to one of our round trip had flight restrictions and other did not so Tampa worked out easier on time) but got us both down there for FREE with our round trip free-bees. THEN used old SW credits to covert to points and only had to pay 125.00 to fly DD down round trip with us. AND I have 875 in gift cards left over that never expire. Now how great is this? If you want to charge and worry about going over your limit, you can always order money from www.usmint.gov - seriously. They have a coin program - free shipping - that lets you buy in increments of 250.00. Goal is to get these 1.00 coins back in circulation. Well I ordered 500 worth to start with and used them at Costco and wherever else to buy gift cards. Worked quite nicely....so if in a pinch to get those points up, you can order money...Costco doesn't accept VISA so I either order coins for there or buy a GC for them online and use VISA to pay for it....I ALWAYS pay off a CC monthly too....

... the 2 free Round trip is a sweet deal. Grab that. They won't expire until 1 year AFTER you earn them. Can't beat that deal either if you are going somewhere in 2011

Can that link be posted? Would like to get my Sig. Other on that program. I got in on the first one and got my gift cards and free flight. I too am impressed with how quickly SW/Chase has been.

Well under 3/1 rules it is point system now. 20,000 points might not get you a free trip. For example one way to florida for me from east coast was 10.600 points...So round trip is close to 22,000 points..however you earn points using credit card so you can easily swap out the points for the ticket however the new rules while nice b/c no black out dates, etc. gets a little tricky on points. More expensive a ticket, more points it uses...

furthermore the cheaper the flight you might get a round trip somewhere and a one way for someone else on that same 20k points. make sense? My fare at 175 each way was a little over 10k points each way....when fare dipped to 124 each way points were around 6800 each way...

I went thru the initial link I provided to apply - did it twice, both before 3/1. Soon as my cards came I called to verify what I earned/would earn. It was as I thought but I did hesitate when she said 500 b/c I had 1k in my mind and she offered to write up a "dispute" (my words not hers) for what I felt I earned vs. what the offer was. Ended up not needing to do that but mine was fine. Did you check the email from CHASE that they would ahve sent you after you applied? you can always call back and go over with the rep. what you ordered, what day and what you thought you were getting...they can escalate it to be looked at...

Is the free flight entered into my account once the statement closes or after the bill has been paid? I see the amount of points that I have earn for using the card but not the free flight points.

Seems like there are different experiences. For me, soon as the bill closed it's cycle for the month, the following morning I logged onto SW into my SW account (not chase, but SW) and my points were sitting right there and I booked my flight immediately. Others have had this happen yet others still have to wait 3 or 4 days or in some cases a monthly cycle. I don't get the rhyme or reason as to why. Seems to really vary.

I know it was SEVERAL days after I even booked my free flight that SW sent an email that I had the points. So definately do the www.southwest.com to keep an eye on your points. For me had nothing to do when I PAID the bill as they were simply there when the monthly cycle batched and closed.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on my SW account. If I don't see them post by the next billing cycle then I'll give them a call. I did the same promotion, No fee, 1 free trip and gift cards, when I called to start the card I had the agent read back what I was getting for opening up the account.

JLTFIN - glad you had the agent read you back what you got. You will be fine. I thinkt he 3/1 thing has thrown that whole IT department for a loop..Just might take until NEXT statemen to see if they did 3/1 changes but you will get them! If you are in a desperate hurry for them check in with them sooner or later but if not, let it ride. they will show up...

Applies iN Feb. Rec'd card in 12 days. Rec'd the free round trip in points at end of first cycle. Appeared in my SW Rapid Rewards account the day I rec'd teh bill (well, might have been in sooner but I logged in to check day I got CC bill). Rec'd teh $100 SE GC in mail mid-month, long before closing the cycle. Will be reaching the next GC level soon. So far it is working out smooth. Have not yet booked flights with teh points. Waiting on winter flights to be released.

No annual fee for the card or no annual fee for the first year or something like that?

I don't do cards with annual fees.
