I applied for the card on line and it did take a little while to get here...maybe 10 days? I immediately placed an amazon purchase, had the card end it's monthly cycle early (I think 2/4/11 instea of 2/22/11). On 2/5 there was my free roundtrip on the SW site under my points. Immediately booked a round trip. In a matter of DAYS my 100 gift card arrived. Super. The next billing cycle begins. I am not even half way thru the 2nd cycle and another 150.00 gift card appears. Seems as though you don't have to wait for the billing cycle to end for the gift card to trigger. The promo I signed up under was NO FEE, free round trip with first purchase, 100 gift card with 1k, 150 gc when you spend another 1500 and a 250 gift card when you spend another 2500. So in 93 days you need to spend a total of 5K on the visa and earn 500 in gift cards (plus of course the free round trip). WHAT Service.....

i need that. Can you link the offer if it's still active? thanks :yay:

I saw a few of these promos but the annual fee ($59!) is not waived for the first year. :(

Use bing.com to do your search and type in "southwest visa $500 gift card" and the first link goes directly to Chase and an application for the deal you're looking for.

ETA - not the first paid ad, but the actual search results which are just below the blue box

I'm just glad that starting March 1 they are going back to their "old" ways. Meaning if you have earned a Rapid Reward ticket you can use it whenever there are seats available. That's how they used to do it. Then they stopped and RR tickets were not available all the time, it was like they had limited seats to put towards the free tickets, so just because you had a RR and seats were available, it didn't mean you could use it. That sucked. They have been sending lots of stuff in the mail about them changing back starting next month. Also the point system seems like it will be less confusing as well. I like SW, so I will be happy to go back to them now.

I stopped using that card because I didn't like the change, but I will go back to it after our Dis trip in Aug. :thumbsup2

Scottmel, so happy to hear about your experience with the SW Visa card.

We just placed our first purchase on it this weekend, however, our statement will not close until March 13. I'm hoping to get some flights to Orlando in early June. Hope it won't be too late.

BTW, our promo was 2 free flights :woohoo: with $59 annual fee.

Since you need June flights - I had them and rebooked for August b/c I won a free trip to Disney!!! at any rate, have your card close on 3/2. This should put you back in the NEW program with no blackout dates....Thus come 3/3 login to SW into your RR account and you should see the credits there.

I did this deal as well...awesome deal!!! I did one for me and one for my husband and I got two free tickets and $500 each in gift cards. I put $5000 on each card for tuition for college. Such a great deal...tempted to get one for my college guy and put more tuition on as he has to fly back and forth to LAX and it would be awesome to get the tix for free.

I'm getting worried about mine. I did the other promo...2 free tickets for using a new card. DH and I both applied - I used mine for the first time a couple weeks ago - the credits aren't there yet (I just checked). Going to call tomorrow. DH's card took longer so just used his for the first time last week.

We did pay the $59 for the annual fee for each but $120 for 4 airline tickets for our WDW trip in August is quite a steal!

They will not post to your SW account until your monthly billing cycle closes. Did it close yet? The monthly cycle on your visa card...

thanks for the great information abt a gift card that works. have a great trip.

Thats great Leslie! I opened a second card myself and was hoping that was ok to do..so I am glad it worked for you! I made my first purchase on the second card but didn't bother to rush the cycle on the 2nd card since I am under the new RR rules now with no blackout....DD12's school - is new for us next year - but that is great about charging tuition. Her old school did not do this but her NEW school, I just checked thanks to your post, allows charging but there might be a fee but heck if I charge 8k I earn an immediate 500 card and several credits.....GREAT IDEA! Thanks!

Hope someone can help me with this question. If you apply for the card now (before 3/1) will you get credits (old system) or points (new system) since I probably wouldn't get my card or free flights until after 3/1. My concern is that if you apply before 3/1 you would get the credits under the old system. In my case that would be a problem because we will not be using the free flights until May 2012. So if we get the credits under this old system, they would be subject to expiration date and blackout dates and wouldn't work for us. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I just got mine last week. I will be sure to put the 5 k on it as I have it in the bank to cover it, even if I have to buy walmart gift cards with it(that is where we do our grocery shopping). I did put my park tickets on it and will use it for our cruise stuff. Won't be hard to find 5k. I am using it for every single purchase and will pay off each month. Plan on closing it out before the free year of annual fee is up. :cool1:

Even if you get them under the old system, prior to March 1, you will be able to convert them to the new system. At least that is the info I got from their change coming up. :thumbsup2

Cool...I might sign up for this. I'd love to take the kids on a trip somewhere other than *gasp* Disney, LOL! We live in FL, so we don't need to fly to Disney.

My understanding was that you can convert points to credits, but not the other way around. If you have credits you are subject to the old system, which has expiration date, black out dates and seat availibility restrictions.

So I clicked on the link you posted...it says, "Enough for a free flight"...does that mean round-trip?

Also, it is waiving the $59 annual fee the first year...would you be penalized if you canceled before then, does it say in your card holder agreement?

How long is the free ticket good for? When do you have to use it by? Thanks, this sounds interesting... (Hi Scottmel!!)
