Very good experience at La Hacienda de San Angel

I was able to get a dinner reservation last Saturday at La Hacienda, and I can say that I suspect this place is going to get very popular, very quickly. (Yes, I know there are no reservations yet, this was a "make-good" because of a reservation mistake at another location.)

The restaurant is beautiful, the view is fantastic, and the service very, very good. Oh, and the food? I only ordered one dish, but it was as good a Mexican dish as I have had anywhere. The food here is in the style of southern Mexico, unlike the Inn inside the pyramid, which is more central and northern Mexico.

There were managers all over the place, visiting with guests and asking them all about the good and the bad. They're trying hard to make this a special place.

Another side effect is that the opening of the Hacienda seems to have inspired them to improve the quality of the food at the Inn as well. My lunch there on Tuesday was the best meal I have ever had there. (Both places are run by the same company.)

At present, they *do* accept both the dining plan and TiW. I did not ask about an AP discount, but since most World Showcase places don't have AP discounts for dinner, my guess would be not.

Can I try to answer any other questions?

What did you order?

Wait, you want me to answer the *hard* questions? Did I sign up for that?

Fortunately, I saved my receipts to jog my memory.

I had the pork tenderloin with mole sauce. It looked like not a lot of food when it arrived, but it was actually plenty. It comes with tortillas, along with salsa and roasted vegetables, so you can make your own very tasty tacos if you want. I think it also came with beans, but I substituted rice.

I also have to add that I'm not a "foodie", so I'm probably easier to please than some on the board will be. On the other hand, I have lived in Southern California for more than 50 years, so I have had a lot of Mexican food from a lot of different restaurants.

I'm really interested in what you ordered. Last night I canceled our ADR for the Rose & Crown and replaced it with La Hacienda at 7:45 p.m. instead. I'm SO looking forward to dinner here! I'm also curious about the view from the restaurant of Illuminations.

Oops, I see that you've answered my question about your meal. :)

I didn't look too closely at the angles, but I think you should have an unobstructed view of the globe. Unless your seat is right by the windows, I think you'll probably miss the higher fireworks, including the very first one that opens the show. (I'm not a fan of Illuminations, so I wasn't thinking too much about that while I was there.)

In the largest of the rooms, the windows are *big*. Obviously designed with Illuminations in mind. My dinner was fairly early, so I can't say for sure if the music is piped in.

Check my earlier post to see my comments about what I ordered.

Thanks so much. I'm not a huge fan of Illuminations either, but it'll probably be pretty to watch from inside the restaurant.

We have 2 seafood lovers and 2 meat lovers in our party and the menu looks like it will be fine for all four of us. :)

Does anyone have any new pictures since the grand opening?:goodvibes Thanks

thanks for the review. :thumbsup2

We're booked there in November, can't wait. But one question...is it really hot/spicy food? Hubby loves it that way, but I'm a wimp! One thing I really liked about San Angel Inn was that I could get Mex food that wasn't burn-your-mouth-spicy, lol.

My entree was not particularly spicy - I think it's primarily the Americanized, "Tex-Mex" dishes that we think of as spicy. This food is more southern Mexico.

If you have concerns, your server should be able to make a note to the chef, but there are lots of choices where spicy should not be an issue.

As for recent photos, I did a search for reviews of the restaurant, and found a few blog entries that folks had made from actual meals, not the media grand opening. Some of them had photos, so they're out there.

I'm sure there are more being put up each day.
