We're leaving in 36 hours for Disney, but our excitement is in the tank in light of the horrible, senseless murder of that poor 16-year-old girl today at the standoff in Bailey, Colorado. It's a beautiful little town in the mountains, not unlike our little mountain town and only 40 miles away as the crow flies...

My wife is a teacher at our high school and it really brings home that there a crazy, evil people everywhere and you can't move far enough away to avoid them... But for the grace of God, that could have been our school, our friend's children.

Tonight we'll be praying for the family of the child and for the surviving hostage and her family. :grouphug:

Why, why why do sickos seek out schools and children to commit these heinous acts?

WOW!! How sad....I've heard about it but haven't been keeping up with it...I hate when sh*t like this happens....I had no idea a 16y/o girl was killed! How awful :sad2: .

because if they did it to anyone else it would recieve less press.

also its not difficult to get a gun in USA?

its horrible though i wish it never happened. :sorrow: <there is no smiley for sorrow>

When I read about it this morning I felt so sad. I lived in Colorado Springs many years ago when DH was in the Air Force. It is a beautiful state and my heart goes out to the families of those involved.

It made me think tho, of how to talk to my DD about it (she's in middle school) and what to do in case something like that ever happened at her school. We all think "it will never be us" but this story indicates it can happen anywhere.

I see that your location is Colorado, so I imagine that, coupled with the fact that your wife is a teacher, hits really close to home. It's okay to feel sad about it, and I guess the best way to handle it is be grateful that your family is intact. I think it will make your trip more memorable knowing that you were able to go as a family. Little things like giving your wife a hug while watching the fireworks will mean that much more to you. Good luck and try to have fun.

Hug and kiss your kids tonight and say a little prayer for the folks that went through such a horrible ordeal! :love2:

The family of Emily has asked that we all go out and commit random acts of kindness in memory of her. Isn't that beautiful?

It sounds like she was such a special girl. Her father sent her a text message during the ordeal to see if she was ok, she replied "I love you guys".

:grouphug: Hug your kids...

That is awesome!! I home school my kids. It is something that never occurred to me until my oldest was sexually harassed in fourth grade, by another 4th grader. It got so bad we brought the sheriff in, but in the end the boys rights were more important than my daughters right to not be afraid in school. So now we home school. It's a crazy world we live.

Prayers for everyone in that town this morning!! :grouphug:

How horrible... I know what you mean.. You cant move far away from sickos... The family will be in prayers
