Kykatt2,
We are going August 24 thru 30 and guess we need it an extra day on each end for packing/unpacking.For the drive it's no problem I use to be an over the road trucker.Where did you find the van your talking about any info would be greatly app.

Try this link and tell me what you get

I was quoting a MCO pick up and drop off thinking you were flying.
Not sure what you'll get doing the rental to and from.. sometimes they do not like the cars going out of state. Maybe two one way rentals ??

last 4 trips, flew 2x, drove 2x. Got good dings on southwest from norfolk twice, not so great other 2 times. Plus factor in the ride to the airport from here, leave to get there 2 hours early, slog through airport with DD, sit on ME bus, sometimes the time is close-ish to driving. Flights are usually too much through CHO or SHD, so we drive more often overall.

Hello from another valley girl! :cutie: As you can see, I live in the valley and went to school here, too! Go Dukes! :goodvibes We are driving down (even with gas prices climbing my husband insists it will be cheaper! and then we don't have to rent a car to visit outside the world)

I'm in the shenandoah valley too - we have flown, auto train and driven to WDW. Just got our tickets today for Southwest out of Dulles $54.00 each way. You get over the fear of flying really fast with that price!

Hi, we're in Loudoun County.

This is our first time going to Disney World and I think I'm becoming obsessed with this site. I never thought there would be so much planning involved.

WOW! How on Earth did you find that price?! Last time I check into flying it was 3x that! I thought for sure with gas going up that prices would only be climbing. Maybe we should fly! But then there is the whole rental car thing to consider...

NO - No rental car at all - Magical Express always:goodvibes As far as the good rate on Southwest goes, this is the second year I have checked daily for the price to come down, and this morning, sure enough it happened, I called my husband at work and told him and he said "book it", of course when I checked again this evening out of curiosity, the price for the trip back was up again - go figure.

Welcome from a northern Virginian and JMU grad! I haven't driven since I became an adult; I wonder how long of a drive it would be. For two of us, flying always made more sense. I'd love not having to check luggage, though!
My big trip this summer is Canton, Ohio to see some wonderful guys inducted into the Hall of Fame, and I hear that's a 7 hour drive! That's a definite drive!

Hi teach! (I am a teach, too, by the way...courtesy of JMU Ed Dept.) A parent of one of my students has told me that if we leave here around 7PM and only stop for RR breaks, we can be at Dis by 7AM - with no accidents, traffic jams, etc. They did that by switching off drivers. (But will we be able to stay awake when we get there?? I asked her this, and she said the adrenaline kicks in and we would be fine until we came back for the mid-day nap) Since I talked my husband into buying our new mini-van based on the need for a reliable car to do this trip (and the need for one with a DVD player to keep the kids occupied for 12 hours popcorn:: ), I guess I had better let him think he knows best ;) and go with the driving plan...all the news about flying lately has me dubious, as well, and since I am not home during the day/early evening it is hard to keep checking on flight prices, etc.

Canton will definitely be a drive...but if you take a route through WVa you could make it a scenic one...have fun! :goodvibes

Glad to have you here on the DIS!!!
