Vero Web access

Does anyone know if there are locations in Vero Beach where you can get access to the internet? I was thinking of a computer terminal wher you could sit down and look up things on the internet, or get access to your web based e-mail account, without having to bring your laptop along. I didn't know if a Vero Beach library would allow you to get on the internet, or there was an internet cafe, or maybe a Kinko's would let you rent some computer time or something like that. If I could avoid dragging the laptop with me, it would be great.

I often thought it would be a nice addition to DVC to have a couple of online web terminal available to be able to use while at a resort. You could even set them up with a credit card swipe, to pay for some online time in order to check in at work, or some such without having to carry the laptop. Paying for time would increase their availability for people who needed to check in on something for business, and help keep them from being tied up all day by people just surfing for fun. They could pay for themselves.

We were just there last week and my husband asked your question and there is no access anywhere. We were also at OKW and VWL and no access at either location either. I also thought your same thought that they should add at least one terminal at each DVC resort. That would be nice.

My husband ended up bringing his laptop and dialed in to an 800 number for 35 cents each time (they charge it as if it is a local call) he did it and he got extremely frustrated after about our 3rd day with the connection being so slow he gave up.

hope this helps! Marley

Personally, I'd rather see them wire the rooms for high speed internet access (Marriot is upgrading all of their hotel rooms to provide this service for about $10/day - not sure if this is happening at their vacation club resorts though).

I've very little desire to go to a kiosk type situation and more often then not, find it in use or out of service. Generally a simple web terminal is not what I need for internet access, even when on vacation.

I'm also not sure a limited number of kiosks could actually pay for themselves. There's quite a bit of expense in infrastructure and maintenance for these things. Unless you've got a volume situation (or a captive audience such as the Disney Cruise Line where you can charge an arm and a leg), I expect that the actual price to use would be so high as to discourage people.

This is interesting topic. When we visit London, we use an internet cafe to send and receive e-mail to our children, using a free Hotmail account which we use only for this purpose. The total cost for such access is about 1 British Pound per hour or less. This seems quite reasonable. I avoid the kisok in the hotel lobby, since there seems to be a waiting line to use it. Otherwise, I am not really interested in having e-mail and Internet access when I'm on vacation (I teach computer science, so this technology is my bread and butter). Thus we have avoided taking a laptop along on vacation trips. One of my problems with remote access is the frustration associated with the slow speed of the typical connection. A high speed Internet connection would make remote access when on vacation more attractive. However, I know that I would not pay $10 per day for such service. I think that we will continue to look for Internet cafes and such where one can pay as yolu go for connectivity.

Ralph,
I agree with you, some quick e-mailing is all I need. I don't see the need for an elaborate Kiosk, but then I bow to others much higher level of expertise in these matters than mine. I'm not aware of an internet cafe in Vero, perhaps one exsits. I actually need to submit some grades for the course I'm teaching, so I'll probably have to try to figure out a laptop internet hookup. We'll give it a shot. If I was more capable with my palm unit, I'd give it a try, although the modem units are pretty pricy.

Sometimes Kinkos lets you rent computer time, I don't know if they are internet capable and you could rent time to get on the internet and get some work accomplished. I don't want to go to too much trouble, I'm on vacation.

We were at VB three weeks ago, and there is a business center on the second floor of the main building (opposite the Green Cabin) where I thought you could rent computer time. I never did it though, because I was too busy relaxing to bother worrying about my email.

Joe1946,
Ouanding info, Joe. I'll give them a call and check it out. I guess the only real place I've made it to on the second floor was the Green Cabin Room. Thanks
