Vero vs. Hilton Head?

Hmmm...I was just daydreaming and wondered, what would you do? If you were to spend, say, a week at WDW and then wanted to do a second week at a beach resort, would you do VB or HHI? How do the two compare? Points-wise, it looks like it would be more "economical" to do HH (depending on season, I suppose). We've been to Vero and really loved it; how much different is HH? I love the decor and theming that I've seen in the pictures, but wondered about the surroundings.:earsgirl:

In my opinion there is more to do "surroundings wise" at Vero (unless you are a golfer)... With that said though Hilton Head is by far my favorite DVC resort. The property is very nice, the room decor is very appealing and it is very peaceful. Hilton Head has beach access and a Main House (? not sure what it was called) with activites, but they are not right on the property. You have to drive (or they have a shuttle) to them. They are about 5 minutes or so away. There is (or at least there was) a grocery store right next door so getting stocked up is very easily done. There is also a mall right there that was really nice. Hubby and I like to go to Hilton Head to veg. It is really a nice getaway, a great place to go, relax, think about nothing and have a good time.

Both resorts are great. At VB you will be right at the ocean; at HH you will be on the marshes. HH has more in the immediate vicinity which you can walk to - the Shelter Cove Marina area has restaurants and shops, and also free evening entertainment. Also, as stated previously, you will need to take a car, bike or shuttle to the Beach House. At VB, you are at the ocean but you will need to get into the car to do off-site activities. Best of luck with your decision!

When are you planning to take this trip? If the beach is a "must do" for you, Vero has a considerably longer beach season than HH. What else are you planning to do while you're there. Contrary to what some believe, there *is* more to do at HH than golf. ;)

I'm sure you'll enjoy either place!!

It's a win-win situation. Both resorts are top notch. Pick one and do the other next year.

Both are great resorts, but IMHO Vero struggles a little to provide more than 4 or 5 days of interesting activities ( unless you're BIG into lying on the beach/by the pool). I think Vero is a great short break from WDW, but HH is a better destination for a longer ( week+) break. Obviously the time of year does make a difference. Vero stays warmer longer, HH isn't quite so oppressive in the middle of summer.

For a week ( and because you've never been) I'd go for HH

LOL, Par8hed. If you had Tony Blair up there he'd be fantasizing of kissing himself

We like both resorts, but haven't stayed for an extended time at either one. We like them both for a relaxing vacation. I like to be at the beach, but I'm not a lay/play on the beach all day type of person. So, because of that, I don't mind HH and the fact that it's not right on the beach. If quick beach access is important, I'd go for VB. They are both wonderful and you can't go wrong at either place.

I've been to both and I'd pick HH over VB any day!

And I don't golf. :teeth:

We've been to both and prefer VB. It's just DH and I and we go to just relax - walk the beach, read, eat and snooze. Love being right on the beach with a two full service restaurants. The resort is beautiful and very, very relaxing. It is not a place to go if you are looking for nonstop action.

I think HH is nice, but we didn't like driving/shuttling to the beach. The resort is lovely and if you have a marsh view I think that would be perfect. I think the children's activities at HH are great as well. We were there in early May and, for us, it was cold, but compared to south Texas just about everything is cooler!!

Flip a coin to choose.

Each location gives me that, "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH, I'm really on vacation!" feeling. DW and I are debating which resort to go back to next year. For us, it will depend upon when we go and what price of flights we can get. We truly love each location. As you have read in previous posts, VB is more "self contained" with more on-site dining options, whereas HH has more nearby eateries and grocery opportunities.

Okay, I give up. Too hard to choose between the two. Guess I'll have to split the week between the two and get the best of both worlds! What a sacrifice...;)
