Well made my first trip using points since we signed up with SSR. We went to Vero and stayed in a 2BR (1211) and was very pleased.
We arrived from Port Saint Lucie,Fl just 45 min south at 11:30 am. We had booked a 2BR and a studio for some freinds and both were ready when we arrived. I recieved a Big welcome home from the security guard at the gate but that was the only welcome home we got. Our room locations were fine. Nothing is too far from the pool or beach access. I was a little nervous since I have never taken a vacation where we brought food from home but was very happy with the convience of the whole thing. There was no signs of wear and tear to the rooms, the only thing we noticed were a few surgar ants which maintance was called and handled very quickly. We ate lunch at Shutters when we arrived and food was good. I had the Cheesesteak sandwhich with portobello mushrooms and my wife had fish and chips. Both good. The little one had a hotdog. Then the rain came. As floridians we know it rains everyday at 3pm. So we just planned around it. My wife made a baked ziti and lasagna at home froze it and heated it up for dinner and it seemed to taste better on Disney property. We spent most of our time lounging by the pool which had plenty of tables and we loved the slide. The kids play ship was a God send and kept the little ones occupide. Again due to rain the campfires were cancelled which we were sad about. Spent some time at the beach but felt it was crazy to spend $21 on an umbrella and chairs so that did not last very long. I felt as though I could of stayed forever and not been bored. The gift shop was great and we borrowed a video one night. They had games you could borrow from eb and flos as well as mini golf which was enjoyed by all. I am more excited now then I was when I first bought after staying on points and cant wait till the next trip which we started planning while we were there. If anyone has specific questions on the resort feel free to write.

Thanks for the trip report. And can I just say how jealous I am of someone who could bring the lasagna from home and still have it hot to eat on the beach at Vero!! ;) ;)

Amen to that!

That's our eventual goal; to be close enough to the resort that we can be there in under the time it takes to cool a pan of lazagna!::yes::

We're considering Vero for next summer. The only concern that we have is that we usually go on vacations that we sightsee or go to WDW and spend the days in the parks. We are not really sit around type people. We are looking for a change as we don't really want to go to WDW again next year, and Vero looks different. Will we be bored? We are 6 adults. Aside from laying on the beach or going in the pools, what else can we do there in the hot summer for 6 days?

Thanks.

There are many watersports from jet skis to snorkling. There are also many off site things you can do like the Mel Fisher museum(treasure hunter) manatee and sea turtle areas. There is good shopping at the outlet malls. Vero is an old beach town and boats are abundant. You could fish play mini golf or regular golf on some great courses. You can even split up your trip and do a few days at Disney and the rest at Vero. Either way you can't go wrong.

MrsG ........... anyone in your trip party like baseball? I believe the Dodgers Minor League affiliate plays ball somewhere in the city of Vero Beach. Just a thought.

Cape Canaveral is close by. Some might like visiting the Space Center there.

Thanks so much. We have a few baseball fanatics. Never thought to look into that. And the Space Center. Been there once and would love to go again. I'm a Science teacher so I could visit that wonderful place in a heartbeat.

Cape Canaveral is about an hours drive from Vero. People go to Vero expecting it to be like Myrtle Beach or Daytona Beach. If that is what you want and like, then Vero is probably not the place for you. It is a very relaxing place to be and you can find things to do but for the most part it is just a beach and a big pool.
Also, the couches are very uncomfortable to sit on. We just left Vero and are now at OKW.

Is there a place close by to see manatees?

Yes - the power plant right there in Vero (on US 1, I believe), is a popular place for them to "hang out."

When my DH was there a few months ago, they got up early one morning (before 7:00) to go surfing up at Sebastian Inlet, and there were 3 "surfing" with them! :)

Ask the front desk - they can probably give you some other common places to find them in the area.

As far as other things to do... I believe you can take tours of the local Piper aircraft plant. And there's also the "Frogman" (Seal/UDT) museum down near Fort Pierce. If you're into lighthouses, there's a nice one down at Jupiter, which is a nice, scenic drive down A1A.
