I have 2 separate questions and should probably have posted 2 different threads but here it goes...
We are going to Vero Beach in August. Do we need to do ADRs for the restaurants while we are there? Is there a town nearby to eat or is it somewhat isolated?? This is a last minute summer trip and I am soooo excited. I called Vero Beach directly and they sent me a sample of things to do during the day and I cannot wait. It sounds like exactly what we are looking for. We have not told our kids about this trip. They think we are not going anywhere this summer because of our November trip..... which leads me to my next question
We will be staying in a 2 br at OKW for Thanksgiving. We are very excited and have ADRs for LTT for Thanksgiving dinner. I am debating if I want to go to the parks that day though. I am kind of interested in a catered meal that could be brought to us at our hotel. Has anyone done this? Is that even possible? We called OKW and they were not aware of any service onsite or off that could do this. What do you all think? Is it even possible? Thanks in advance

We are heading to VB in August, I made ADR's in advance to be safe. The resort is really North of Vero Beach. It's about a 10 minute ride into town. There are many chioces in the area. Both chain and non-chain restaurants. We ate at the Ocean Grill (very good), Jack Baker's Lobster Shanty (horrible) and Carrabas (excellent). Hope this helps.

Can't answer your VBR question, because I have only been there once for a drink and a quick look around.

As far as Thanksgiving, I don't know of anything on Disney property that would cater a Thanksgiving dinner, but how about one of the local grocery stores. There is a Publix on SR 192 that DH & I go to all the time when we are there, and they have a lot of those rotisserie chickens, hot side dishes and other entrees and so on. My guess is that they would probably do some kind of Thanksgiving dinner that you could go and pick up.

In January when we were at OKW in a GV, there was a large group travelling with (about 20 in all...not all staying in the GV with us!!!!) because we were all doing the marathon weekend thing. Anyhow, DH & I decided to have a get-together on the last night at our GV, so we could all hang out and talk comfortably, rater than being in a restaurant where you might be at one end of a long table and so you can't talk to the folks at the other end of the long table.

To make a long story short (and it's probably too late!!! ;) ) we called Publix in the morning and ordered 5 rotisserie chickens, potato salad, mac salad, cole slaw, for pick up at 6PM. We bought the makings of a green salad and some dressing when we got there. It ended up costing about $75, fed like 20 people and was a great time.

I'd likely just go to the grocery store and shop and prepare my own family meal just as I would at home. The kitchens at OKW are VERY comeplete and certainly large enough to accommodate this plan. FYI we have made many full dinners for groups from 4-12 people in varying OKW villas, and it's no more difficult than entertaining at home.

Hey I'm going to VB in August also; the 19 - 26th!! Can't wait!!!!! As far as dinner there are the options that Halle metioned in Vero proper but even closer there are several restaurants that are fun and the food is decent! Squid Lips, Capt Hirams and Red Orchid (Thai food across from Capt hirams) All are about a 5 min drive.

Actually the pizza joint (Orchid Pizza) right off the resort has good pizza about 1 min walk and I found this decent (not great) Indian takeout right up the road in Wabasso.

Here is a great place that is not mentioned often, we have eaten there 5 or 6 times in the past few years.
Charlie South Beach Grille. Big menu and a great big salad bar.
About 8 miles south on US 1

Mahusky - is the Thai food at Red Orchid good? We love Thai and that might be a nice option for us in Oct. when we go

My wife and I really enjoyed the meal there. I would def go back again! They also have Sushi there if that is your sort of thing! BTW if you go to Squid Lips the Fried Grouper Fingers as an appetizer are very yummy!!!

Mahusky, we want to try one of the three restaurants you mentioned, which one do you feel is the best. We're a group of 5 me, DH, DD (23) her boyfriend 30 and DS 26. We love upscale places ( CA Grill, Yachtsman) as well as sports bar type places. Thanks for your help.

Well the most upscale place I have eaten at down there is Ocean Grill but I wouldn't call it upscale to the places you mentioned. The food is very good there though.

Maybe others can comment on another "upscale" place in Vero.

As far as a sports bar place the closest would be Capt Hirams... they have an outdoor food area (Tiki type of theme on the beach) with live entertainment. Food is decent but is lots of fun.
