We made our first ressie as DVC'ers for Vero the last week of June, 2005!!!!
We've only been to Vero once, in Nov, for 1 night. I have no idea what to expect in the summer!
Any tips, or suggestions of things to do at the resort? How hot will it be? If you've been there in June I'd love to hear about it!
Thanks

Can't give you too much advice except to get to the pool by 7 AM to secure a chair!!! WE had an a very bad experience at VB this past summer and we got to the pool by 9 AM....................we even chose to lose our points and left VB and headed back to OKW (weekend pts. too!!). Luckily there was availabilty!!!

WE used to really enjoy VB but we won't be going back any time soon!!

Our family spends 3 nights at Vero every summer. The ocean is warm, not like up north. There are plenty of places a short drive away to eat dinner at.
Great Mexican Restaurant.... "Ay Jalisco" ....something like that.

We enjoy the leasure time after our trip to WDW. You can even catch the minor league baseball team about 15 minutes away.

The resort is really neat.

Good luck.

Have you seen the Vero slide show?

We're going to VB for the first time in April. Can't wait! :flower1: It's so cold here, I've been thinking about our Spring Break trip for the past two days. I think I'll go watch the slideshow again. :cool1:

Our family spent a week at Vero in late June a few years back. We will also be spending the 4th of July weekend there in 2005. We found it could get very hot in Vero. The ocean is warm. The bugs were the worst. They did not bother me until the end. We went to a camp fire a night or two before we left and I was mauled. My legs were a mess. I will never go to Vero without bug spray. (We are from California where there are no bugs) We enjoyed walking on the beach at night in search of turtles, touring the Harbor Branch Oceangraphic Institute, looking around the treasure museam, and hanging out around the pool and the beach. Hope you have a great time and maybe we will see you there.

If you go at a time when the turtles are laying their eggs, that's great.

We were there in May and we saw one turtle who was struggling. We ran down to the beach along with many other people. Fortunately, there was someone from Animal Kingdom there and they rescued the turtle. It could not submerge because it had debris stuck in its mouth or something.

We then saw other turtles swimming at various different times and were completely amaed by what they look like up close. One looked as big as the hood of our car.

Make sure you take your binoculars and I would also keep an eye on the sky. We have seen several meteor showers while at VB. It's a perfect place for star gazing.

Our family of five went to VB this past July. We stayed for the week and had a great time. It was very laid back and casual. I couldnt believe how many people went to the pool vs. the ocean. I found the beach to be very clean and the water warm. Since the atmosphere is very relaxing, sleep in and go to the beach later in the day. As far as the bon fire at night, we stayed off the beach and watched from the deck area so we would get eaten by the no seums.
The Walmart and other grocery stores are not that far from the resort. Stop by on your first day and stock up on snacks, water, soda, or any other food or beach items.
The one thing that we did not do and I wish I did was try the deep sea fishing. Maybe next time.

Have a great time on your vacation.

Any turtle activity in April? We'll be there April 3-8. Counting the days...almost down to the double digit dance!

We have been in June several times and will be returning in June of this next year also.

The weather is great with some scattered afternoon thunder storms. High 80's and low 90's. Very comfy on the beach with the breeze.

The turtle viewing is in June and July so you have picked a great time for that.

As someone else mentioned alot of people use the pool and not the beach. We love the beach its clean and not at all crowded. I would only recommend allowing older children who swim well to go past knee level water though. The riptides are pretty mean at VB.

For younger children Vero offeres a wide variety of activities and for older kids they are offering alot of sports type activites now- my kids were pleased last summer with the addition of more teen activites.

There are many good dining options around Vero. The options on property are good but I couldn't imagine making do with just those.

We love anytime between the last week of May and the 3rd week of July. The weather is a little unpredictable the last week of May first week of June. But after that you can expect beautiful weather. It is true that you must get to the pool early in the morning in order to get a table/and or a few chairs. We have found people to be more than willing to share any chairs that they aren't using. We enjoy meeting new people while on vacation; we are part of a large family with DVC. We are all at the resorts for the same purpose. If we didn't talk to one another about our experiences who would any of us learn.

I would probably spend more time at the beach if chairs and umbrellas were free for members. I can't justify the amount of money for renting daily OR weekly, and we usually travel with a group of 12 to 16 people. This next summer we have a 2 bedroom, something that we haven't had before. In the past we have had 4 inrooms and had a beach cottage twice. I'd like to see them build a few grand villa's across the highway from the main building. But doubt that happens.

My family (NOT ME) have had to opportunity to see a Loggerhead coming in from the ocean, crawling up a dune, and then slowly making it's way back to the ocean after laying eggs. It was a four hour process. We have pictures and video. They say the turtles start laying in mid-June and hatch in October. This past year was a bad year for turtle nesting.

If you go with the right attitude I am sure that you will enjoy your trip to Vero. As I HATED it when we first went, but find myself looking forward to it every summer.
