Help!
We are planning our first trip home Dec 29 - Jan 4....We will
be bringing our extended family with kids ranging in age from
5 to 20....We are trying to decide if maybe we should spend the first three nights and VB and then head to OKW for the last 4....please let me know if you have any suggestions.....and please let me know what it is like at VB at that time of year....will they have a anything special for New Year's Eve? What time of year do they do the Turtle Walk? One last question...what kind of weather should you expect at VB for this time of year? Thank ya'll for all your help....

It will definetly be quieter at Vero than WDW for NYE. I believe last year they did offer a party....I'll see if I can find the write up or maybe others here actually attended.

The weather at Vero and WDW is a wild card -- it could be warm, it could be freezing, it could be both during your trip. Vero should be slightly warmer than Orlando. The turtle walk is during mating season -- spring/summer.

Update -- From the Winter Vacation Magic -- There is a blurb for Vero talking about how they will host oliday crafts workshops, games, activiites and entertainment starting with Thanksgiving and running through the holiday season. Then it says, "If you're celebrating New Year's Eve iwth us, we're planning some special dining and family friendly entertainment options."

I was at Vero this past New Year's. Just for New Year's, we had a choice of a special New Year's Eve dinner in its restaurant or a special New Year's Eve Buffet. We picked the buffet, and it was wonderful! Then, the resort had a family New Year's Eve party from 8 p.m. to about 12:15 a.m. under a massive enclosed tent on the resort grounds, which we attended. There was a DJ and games with prizes for families, dancing, and snacks and beverages, and loads of noise makers, hats, and party favors. There was a countdown to midnight, and we made lots of noise to celebrate when 2002 arrived. We had our 14 year old granddaughter with us, and we had a ball! (There is a charge to attend the buffet and party and you do need to make reservations in advance.)

The resort has lots of what I would call "regular" activities, (meaning they weren't for New Year's only) for all ages -- T-shirt decorating, sand casting making, fabric dyeing and painting, swim lessons, tennis lessons, bingo, pin trading, swimming pool games, soccer, archery, sidealk calk art, scavenger hunt, cel art, and on and on. It seemed like there was something going on almost every hour. There's campfire singing and smore making that's lots of fun offered at night, and star gazing on the beach. Also, there was a guided beach walk in which you are taught to hunt for "sea beans," which are plant pods and seeds that float from all over the world and end up on the beach. Our gradddaughter spent the much of our trip hunting the hard-to-find ones. I was told that the turtles are not active at that time of year, and no turtle walk was offered while we were there.

The weather last New Year's was cool -- high 60s, to 70, but the pools are heated and we were in them. We walked the beach on thenice days, but it happened to be windy and we did not sit on the beach for the day. One day it poured rain, but the activities kept us busy. The resort has its own mini golf course, and we had fun with that, too.

We had a such a great time that we made Vero our second DVC home and will be back there soon!
