Are you asking about Disney's Vero Beach Resort - one of my favourite places - or Vero Beach itself, which is actually some miles away?

Sorry i am asking about Disney's Vero Beach Resort

:wave2: No, there aren't 2 places with the same name - Disney's resort is about 5 or so miles from the centre of the beach resort itself.

I love this place for a bit of restful luxury right by the ocean. I'm not really a beach person and so usually only go for 2-4 nights. They do have activities for children and adults; some of which you pay for. I think this link would give you a good 'feel' for the place http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_vero.htm
I think the king of trippies (IMHO) Kevin Stringer also stayed there a few years ago too so you could see if you could find his report - http://freespace.virgin.net/kevin.stringer/. Happy reading :sunny:

Disney's resort is about 4-5 miles north of the main town of Vero Beach. It's on the border of the towns of Vero and Sebastian (inlet).

Being just a couple of hours drive from WDW it's an ideal spot for a family who are looking for a little relaxation and beach time before/after a WDW vacation. IMHO it's ideal for a short break (up to 4/5 days , I'll accept an argument for more time if you're a real beach lover). The resort is right on the beach and many of the rooms offer a sea view, although local ordinances mean that the resort had to be designed so the lights of the building can't be seen from the beach. This is so when the eggs, of the many turtles that nest on that stretch of beach, hatch the hatchlings don't get confused and head towards the lights of the buildings instead of the moon and the safety of the ocean. In the main building ( the Inn) are the Inn rooms which are all pretty much regular hotel rooms. There is also a number of satelite buildings hich house the studio, one +2 bedroom DVC units and a number of truly spectacular 3 bedroom beach houses ( IMHO the best of a number of very nicely designed 3 bedroom DVC units) None of these buildings are more than a few minutes walk to the main building which houses the restaurants, bars, shops and admin areas.

Not sure if they have combined the restaurants are Vero. On my trips there were two restaurants (served by the same kitchen) which gave the guest a slightly different choice of menu and ambience. Sonya's is/was the more upscale/sophisticated choice and Shutters was the more family orientated. Both offered excellent food although for a longer stay most people will want to head out to the town of Vero itself for a change of menu, view or just for a change of scenery.

Disney's Vero Beach resort has an excellent pool area with a large slide, the kids activities are excellent and the staff work really hard to keep up the "Disney Magic" , there are a number of activities they offer for kids and adults to keep you amused and the "turtle watch" is extremely popular. So much so they have to run a "lotto" for who gets to go and watch the turtles hatching at night. I'm not sure how the beach is at the moment, I know one of the hurricanes from last year hit Vero head on and the beach took a large beating.

If you're looking for a nice relaxing beach destination, with great (typical Disney level) service , excellent activity program, good food on site and top quality rooms then IMHO this is an excellent choice.

We are going on our first visit there in a couple of weeks time - I have heard very good reports from a few people who have stayed there so can't wait

The beach area looks gorgeous - even better than before. I was there on the day it re-opened last November and then again 2 weeks ago and it's now hard to tell it was hit so badly. A new boardwalk has been built down to the beach, which is different to the old one. It has a gradual ramp going off to the right and steps to the beach to the left and with plenty of seating for ocean watching. You can see more of the beach and the ocean than previously because much of the dense shrubbery was destroyed. The beach is not wide and a few surfers were making good use of the Atlantic on our last trip.

Something I've just thought of jns, if you are there on a Sunday, the breakfast brunch at Sonya's is good value and seems to attract locals also. I've dined at Shutters many times (it's quite a trek into Vero itself) and have never thought it more than so-so for the prices they charge.

Why thanks very much Moira.

Just click on the October 2000 report. I just had a quick look and it's a bit embarrassing how small and old the photos look back in pre-digital days. Most of them were taken on an analogue camcorder that could capture small stills.
