I will be in Orlando for business and have a day to do something. I am thinking of driving to Vero Beach to see the resort. We might plan a trip and I wouldn't mind getting a preview to see if we want the three bedroom cottage. As a current dvc member, can I schedule a tour at Vero Beach?

none of the sold-out resorts offer tours.

BWV has a model room available for walk-throughs and it's not impossible to go to sold-out resorts (like VB) and ask the front desk staff if you can see an empty room. if one is available and they have the free time, they are often willing to accommodate you (but there is a risk that they will be busy and/or not have an appropriate room to show you.)

but there would not be any sales staff at VB or anything like that... IMO, you get a great idea of the resort and villas by looking at pics on the internet (as well as the similarities to other DVC accommodations.)

It would be unlikely that a beach cottage would be empty in the warmer months (or actually anytime). They won't show you an occupied villa.

Take the drive over 528 to A1 and enjoy the trip. Have lunch at VB. you need to see it to determine if you could imagine staying for a few days. We did this last summer and have no regrets because it helped sell us on VB as an off park destination for our vacations.

We got lucky on our first visit and walked by a cottage that was being cleaned and all the housekeeper if we could take a peek. She let us.

If that was my beach cottage, I would be very upset with the housekeeper allowing total strangers into my villa. She could be fired for doing that.

Maybe it was a cleaning between guests.

It was. There was no one staying in the Villa at that time.

No need to jump to the negative.

Thanks for the lunch idea. I might do that!

As for the tour during cleaning, I had just assumed it was between visits! :thumbsup2

I remember visiting the Boardwalk just before purchasing DVC (and it was sold out as SSR was being sold at the time), and the housekeeper let us see an open 2BR without an issue.

I still don't think it's up to the housekeeper to show non-registered guests a villa.

I find it amazing that I just wanted a little advice, and some people just feel the need to speak negatively. You've made some assumptions about this conversation.

For your clarification, at the Boardwalk, I asked at the Concierge desk if we could see a 2BR. The concierge desk found me a housekeeper who had permission to show me a 2BR. I would never just walk the hallways of any resort asking to be let into someone's room or an empty room.

How long is the drive?

The drive from Orlando was a little over a hour, its very easy and straight route. VB is very secluded location.

It's about a 90min drive from disney to Vero Beach, Disney Vero Beach is actually in Wabasso but you can find some great restaurants, I recommend the Green Room at the resort, Mulligans beach house, Capt. Hiram's or any place on the barrier island!

Great information! Thanks so much!

During my last stay there, in April, I asked if it would be possible to look inside a Beach Cottage and was told that there wasn't one unoccupied and that the best time to ask is in the morning.

Due to a family emergency we had to cancel our 2 two bedroom reservations at HHI last year. We had so many points that were going to be lost that my DH and I went to Vero and stayed in the beach cottage in Mar for 4 nights. Needless to say there was plenty of room! Lol

It was so beautiful. The layout and decor were amazing. And of course being right on the beach made you feel like you were in your own home not part of a resort.

If anyone has any questions about the cottage just ask.

We were there in January. We asked at the desk if we could see one of the cottages and one of the staff members showed one to us between the cleaning, check out and check in, but they weren't intruding on any guests. It was pure luck that we could see it.

You got lucky. We went just hoping it was as wonderful as we heard...plus had points to burn! They are wonderful. Wish there was more to do there so we could bring the family. But I think my kids would be so bored.
