Vero Beach?

We went last summer. The kids were 12 and 13 then. We did enjoy it. It was quiet. We were ready to leave by the end of the week though. Sometimes we go away and I feel like I could stay longer, did not get that feeling here. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful but we are used to big waves and the week we were there we had NO waves. Because the water (ocean was so warm) and the lack of waves it wasn't very refreshing.
My son enjoyed the teenage activities and both kids LOVED the pool. The landsccape was so pretty and I think its the pictures of it that got us to go. Its even more beautiful in person. I just felt like it was missing something. I am probably one of the few. MANY people love it.

We are going there for the first time this summer. I am so excited. I don't love cheap touristy areas and I am expecting a quiet Disney experience. We will be at Disney 10 nights and finish off with four nights at VBR.

I was also thinking of trying Vero Beach after WDW this July. Does anyone know how long it takes to drive from Orlando to Vero.
Thank you.

While we're on the topic of Vero Beach. I'm going for the first time in 2 weeks. Does anyone have good directions to get there from Disney? I know our reservation has directions just wanted to know how accurate they are.

Thank you.

It takes 2 hours from door to door, a very pleasant, easy drive.

The driving instructions, although seemingly too simple, are dead accurate.

We are going for 6 days on 1st July, our first time there for a number of years. It is absolutely beautiful, unhurried, calm, peaceful. Try the campfire storytelling with S'mores. It is our favourite thing, very 'girl guides', but for us Brits, it is a little piece of Americana. Just watch those bugs!

We went last year and are heading back in August. We flollowed disney's directions on the was and on the way back we took the toll road. Can't remember the number but know that we went past the mall in VB to get on. We found it to be less stressful.

I'm pretty sure there is an unbirthday party. I think someone here can tell you if a 7 year old will like it.

You took a good option for the return -- SR-60 is where the mall and the outlet shopping are located. You take that until you reach Flordia's Turnpike. Take that up to the Osceola Parkway and you're back at Disney.

Basically, to reach Vero, you've got to get across from Orlando (center of the state) to the Atlantic coast and turn left. FL Turnpike and I-95 are the north south options and the Beeline or SR 60 are your east/west options.

We are going to VB from the West Palm Beach Airport. Does anyone know how to get there for that airport? :cheer2:

Another route we took for the first time last year was the A1A all the way down from Port Canveral to VB.. The drive takes a bit more time since there were stoplights, but it was nice to see the area and to follow the ocean down... I think it took 2.5 hours total. :goodvibes

As far as things to do... The pool is always a hit... There's the arcade, mini-golf.. Jet skiing.. Kayaking.. Oceangraphic Institute tour..

My kids as still quite young, but they love it there almost as much as WDW..

We did Vero last year. Just so you understand Vero is very quiet and dark at night. It is not at all like Clearwater or Cocoa beach.

That said, there is plenty to do. Staff seemed very nice. Plenty of things to do. Lots of rentals (boats...). Comunity Hall was great for kids. Pool was really nice. Do the fire on the beach at night.

Rooms were real nice.

We will be there then too (we arrive May 8th). We are also originally from Billerica! Maybe we'll see you 'round the pool :yay:

Another quick question (thanks for all the quick responses!)-

I might be jumping a bit ahead of myself with planning this trip. We would like to go mid-August. Would it be too late to make a reservation? (we were a bit lazy this year in planning :sad2: )

Thanks again.

We just booked for August 6-11. We got 4 Inn rooms no problem. There are a lot of us going and all the larger units were booked. I think after the 15th you will be Ok. Most kids are back in school. But then again who knows.

I must say we were there for Spring Break and it was fantastic. My DH really wanted to go back again. So we planned for August too. Have a good trip.:sunny:
