Vero Beach w/a 5yr old

Looking at staying at Vero Beach this summer for 4-5 days. But, I'm afraid my 5 yr old DS won't enjoy himself.

We're looking into DVC and our home resort would be BCV, which I'm thrilled about. But, my DH says we've seen enough of WDW lately.............my DS and I completely disagree (we'd move there if we could)!

How do I convince him we should stay at our home resort? Or can anyone out there convince me Vero Beach would be a good choice?

VB for 4 or 5 days with a 5 year old would be pretty difficult IMO. Not enough to keep him interested for that long. Our first VB trip was when DS#2 was 6. WE spent 4 days and we were pushing the limits of his interest. It was a great time, though, don't get me wrong. Maybe you should stay a couple of night at each (they are only an 80/90 minute drive apart).

The first time we went DD was 1 or 2 and DS was 4, I think.

We NEVER run out of things to do. When we are there for 7 nights our kids do not want to leave and either do we.

It may just be us but we swim, use the slide, pirate ship, mini golf, playground, go to the beach. We usually alternate days between beach and pool.

They have numerous activities for children every day. Crafts, pool games, water balloon toss, etc.

We just can't get enough of it. DS and DD also enjoy the arcade and they have bikes to rent.

We do squeeze in a little rest time here and there and usually go into town for lunch after day 4 for a change of scenery.

We rent movies from the gift shop. We even play checkers in the Green Cabin room during the day.

I do not think you'll regret the trip for one minute. DD is 4 and DS is 6 and they can't wait to go back!!!! We have never heard them say they were bored.

I have to agree with vbfamily. We just spent 5 fun days there over President's week. DS is 6 1/2 yo and he had a blast.
Mini water slide area for the small ones, low basketball hoop for the kids which my son fell in love with, he could salm dunk just like Jason Kidd. They had plenty to do, bon fires at night and lots of really nice things to do all day. As much as he loves WDW he had a ton of fun. DW says that it was one of our best vacations. The fact that we had 5 days out of the cold/snow helped a lot.

If your child likes the beach it shouldn't be a problem. My kids, (10 and 3) love the beach, we are heading to St.Maarten for two weeks at the end of April. They love to walk the beaches, play in the water, sand castles, etc. So if your willing to get down in the sand,, then it shouldn't be a problem. The pool is great, the slide is fun. The only problem is if it rains, if it does, I would head up to the space center or Daytona USA for the day.

I'd have to agree with the majority....

VB staff does a great job of throwing activities for the little ones.. Bingo, Bubble Blowing, Crafts, Character Breakfast, Campfires, SnorkelEARS, etc...

What time of year are you going?? You might be able to take your son to a Dodgers spring training game down the road?

Top that off with the pool, beach, and local activies, and you'll wish you had booked it for longer than 5 days...

We are heading to Vero in August with kids that will be 16, 15, 13, 11, 9, 6, and 2. The 6 and 2 year olds are mine and this will be the 6 year old's 4th trip to Vero. She went at 3, 4, and 5. She loves it (as do all the other kids). The kids spend most of the day in the pool or on the beach, taking breaks here and there to do activities (some they have really enjoyed include bubble time, hula hoop contest, pool tug of war, chalk art, making paper airplanes, origami, treasure hunt, mini golf - these are all free or cost a very small fee like $1). The older kids loved the pool slide, ping pong, and played every sport they could find (basketball, tennis, soccer, etc.). The campfire at night is great. There is lots to do and I would highly recommend Vero to any family.

My youngest is now six, but she has been to Vero twice, once when she was four and once when she was five. She loves it and talks about it all the time.

When we do a non-Disney trip, we like to just sit around the pool or ocean most of the time. My kids love to swim, and I like to relax and read. At VB, there are so many scheduled activities, sometimes it is hard to pick and chose.

I would guess that those families that are used to going, going, going all the time, perhaps the kids would get bored. But like I said, that is not the kind of trip my family makes. Actually, we like going to Vero more than Disney, and would stay two weeks if we could and our kids agree, but ONLY if we still go to Disney every three years or so, lol.

I really can't imagine any kid not liking vero.

We went last may with a 2yr old and a 4yr old they loved it!!!!!! I had the same worry as we stayed for 5 nghts and not sure if they would drive us crazy or not. They loved the pirate ship and mini golf. They always ask when we are going back.

I just wanted to say 'Thank You' to everyone that responded. I am very excited to go now..........but, unfortunately I am going to have to sit on a wait list now! We were trying for the second week of July but, all 1 Bedrooms are booked. We're asking to be on the wait list and hoping something opens up!

Hope it works out for you.We do not have a 6yr old our DD is 14 but like the others said, there are many activities there to keep a 6yr old occupied plus many other things to do outside the resort. Even when it rains, they have a number of indoor "rainyday" activites planned for the kids.

If you can't get a room with points, they have some great discounts going if you pay cash.

Is this an option?

Count us in, too ! Our first VB stay was what convinced us to become DVC members. Our son--now 9-- was 5 at the time. He had an absolute blast-which helped his parents have a wonderful vacation! The resort is small enough for cast members to remember who you are, and big enough to have a great variety of things to do for all of us. Pool games, scavenger hunts, mini-golf, arts and crafts-all there! My son loved the Navy SEAL museum that was a short drive from the resort as well.
We love the parks-and since we live only an hour away from WDW are there often-but still not often enough! There are times when we enjoy the constant activity and hustle of the parks, but
when we need 'family' time and relaxation, VB is our first choice!

The best thing is....no matter which you choose, you are going to have a wonderful time! Enjoy!

The cruise was just plain FUN time-in no small part thanks to you guys!
Mike considers family relaxation time to be anyplace that doesn't have an internet cafe!
You look pretty relaxed in your hammock, too---when you managed to stay in it...LOL..of course, the sand looked pretty relaxing as well.

We've been twice in October with our three kids. I assume there is not as much going on when we're there as in the summer - but our kids still love it. DS7 and DD9 could stay in the pool all day and they adore the slide. The activities are great too! This past Oct., the toddler water area and putt putt were closed while we were there and there were no complaints from our kids even then. I don't think you'll regret staying that long. This year in Oct., we'll be going to HH. Looking forward to comparing it to our relaxing VB vacations.
