Hi there !
We recently got back from a week's stay at VB in Aug.

It'll be about a 90--100 min drive from Orlando airport to VB.
Directions :
Take the SR-528-TOLL E exit, EXIT 1A, toward COCOA/ KENNEDY SPACE CENTER.
Merge onto FL-528 TOLL E (Portions toll).
Merge onto I-95 S via EXIT 42A toward MIAMI.
Take the CR-512 exit, EXIT 156, toward FELLSMERE/ SEBASTIAN.
Take the ramp toward SEBASTIAN.
Turn LEFT onto CR-512 E/ 95TH ST/ FELLSMERE RD.
Turn RIGHT onto 90TH AVE/ CR-510. Continue to follow CR-510.(you'll go over the bridge over the water)
Turn RIGHT onto FL-A1A. (you'll see Disney's Vero Beach on the left as soon as you make the turn.

Suggestions :
Purchase beach chairs and umbrellas at the local CVS or Walgreens vs renting at the resort to save a good amount of money.
bug spray for no-see-ums (there was a good amount of them in Aug)
Temps should be mid 80's to low 90's. during the day and 70's at night.
Orchard Island Pizza delivers right to the lobby of the resort. Ask the CM at check-in for the number. In addition to the pizza, the chicken pasta alfredo is pretty good---my kids really liked it.
And definitely visit this thread for LOTS of great info on area sites and restaurants & photos :
