I have just booked our next trip home in August. 1 night Board walk, 4 nights Vero, 4 night Cruise and 5 nights Saratoga Springs. We did not have enough points for all nights so I opted to pay for Fri/Sat at Vero, there are currently no discounted rooms available for DVC, which was a surprise to me. Any advice on when discounted rooms generally become available? In the past it has never been a problem at the the end of August.

Thanks

Paying cash for Fri/Sat is a pretty good idea - the points are quite high for those nights

As for discounts, that is a good question - I do not know the answer as the VB discounts do not seem to relate to the WDW resort codes

thanks

Hi there!

When you say that there are no discounted rooms available for DVC did you find that out through CRO or MS with DVC?

I ask because although there may not be a discount code to book through CRO we as DVC members get a 25% discount if paying cash at the DVC resorts -- I just booked a 1bdrm villa at Vero for a weekend stay this June for $214.00 a night!:jumping1: WHOO-HOO!

Anyway, just thought I'd let ya know to check on the DVC discount for your stay in case you only checked with CRO -- I had checked on the room I just booked with CRO first and the same room was $310 a night (with a code that was available) and it turned out to be less expensive booking cash through MS with DVC.

Discount codes usually come out about 2 or 3 months before you want to be there btw;)

HTH's some -- sending you good luck & pixie dust:goodvibes

Thanks for the info. yes it was MS they seemed surprised that there were no discounted rooms. We have had discounted rooms in the past but I thought we had booked further out. If you reckon its 2-3 months out I guess I'll try again in May.

Thanks again

I have found offers in past years' Entertainment Club books. Not sure about the current one, however.

Gosh, sounds like we were lucky. We booked Fri, Sat & Sun at VB in October (1 bed) 2 weeks ago.

We got 25% discount booking via DVC MS. Paid $187.50 per night. I just asked CM when I called to check on our other reservation.

Just can't wait for October. 3 nts VB and 11 nts BCV!! Yippee!:Pinkbounc

Just got my Disney Visa statement from Bank One and there was an offer for studio room at VB for $149. It's only good through June 2, but check their website after this expires and see if there is another offer. August and September are usually cheaper because of the weather.

The Birnbaum book has had a 20%-25% discount coupon the past few yrs. You can call & ask for the discount (I called the resort directly) & then buy the book if you need to. Also last fall (not sure if Aug was included) had AP discounts at least on the Inn rooms. Not sure if villas were included. It was only $99 so much better than points.

The 25% member discount through MS depends on availability. We have four nights booked at VB in mid-June. The first night (a Friday), we are paying full rack rate. The following three nights, the 25% discount was available, and the reservations have been linked. The 25% discount is never guaranteed. We will check in mid-May for availability of the first night at the member discount and make a change in the reservation if it turns out to be available.

We book VB stays to follow BWV stays that have been booked at 11 months. We use a combination of points and cash at VB. Sometimes the member discount is available as early as the 7 month booking window (apparently low demand periods). This has been the case for our early January stay each of the last two years. In other cases, we book what is available at rack rate, and call later to see if a member discount has become available. We have never had a problem changing from a rack rate to the 25% member discount if it has opened up prior to our trips.

I also usually check into AP discounts and watch the Disney Visa and Birnbaum discounts as well, although some of these are for Garden View Inn Rooms. We much prefer the Ocean View Inn Rooms, so some of these other discounts don't really work for us.

According to my calculations, it is pretty much always cheaper to reserve VB weekend nights on cash, even after tax at rack rate. Well, that is at current prices at least. but we bought fewer points at VB, even tho we intend to go on a regular basis, bcs we plan to reserve the weekend nights in cash, every time. That is in all room categories.

It would appear that rack rate after tax is also cheaper than points (assuming cash value of $10 per pt) in the 1BR category most times at BCV, VWL and BWV (pfd view only). At least it is this year. but hey, I'm having too much fun with spreadsheets here :hyper: .

We have booked Vero for the past few summers using at least a few nights on cash. Some years I have gotten the discount, others not. Last summer we were there the third week of August and there was no discount available. I am going this summer in July and I am not too hopeful for the discount. They always tell me to keep checking though. Good luck!
