Which resort would be better for 3 kids 3 and under, Vero Beach or Hilton Head? Hiton head looks to have better activities for kids, but no characters. Any opinions? :confused3

I used to live in Hilton Head overlooking the Dis resort @ Shelter Cove. We go down there about once a month too (my dad lives on the beach in Palmetto Dunes). I dont know much about the Dis resort there other than they do not have characters. As for the island, there is a ton to do. Shelter Cove has some neat little shops and some restaurants that you could walk to. There are bike paths all over the island, great restaurants (you could probably eat at a new one every night for a year), great shopping (outlets just off the island, many on island) and of course pools and the beach. There is a shuttle from Dis resort to their beach hut in Palmetto Dunes so no need to drive (although you can). Dont expect a brillant blue ocean. Our water is dark, meaning its healthy for the sealife. At low tide, there is a huge expanse of beach-great for biking and walking. I dont know when you are planning to go, but I believe starting this fall they will be renourishing the beaches. They move along in sections, so its not the entire beach, but there will be some equipment on some parts of the beach.

Feel free to email me for more info on HHI. Ive never stayed in Vero Beach so I cant compare the two.

Sorry, I didnt mention any other activities other than the beach and shopping (guess you know what we do)! There are mini golfs, golf, horseback riding, nature tours (nighttime turtle walks in season, gator viewing, dolphin cruises, etc), fishing trips (including for shark which I frown upon), kayak nature tours, movies, and the other usual stuff. The Dis resort is at Shelter Cove so you have access to many water activities. Over at Boathouse, there is also jet ski rentals (you go out in groups and often see dolphins). Oh, in Shelter Cove by the Harbourside 3 building and mermaid fountain there is a little playground (great for dad and the kids while mom browses in the shops)!

One more thing, my kids are DS 4.5 and DD 1 if that helps.

I have stayed at both and they are both very nice resorts. I have a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old and I would definitely choose Vero Beach because the resort is directly on the ocean whereas at Hilton Head you have to pile into the car or take the shuttle to get to the beach. With such young children, I much prefer to go straight from the room to the beach. Have fun :)

I've only stayed at Vero and it was great. We had 4 DD's 5, 4, 1, and 7 months. We had a wonderful time the pool was great and they have a kiddie water area that is like a pirate ship and our girls loved it. The beach is right there. I didn't see any characters. But we signed the older girls up for a Un-birthday party. It was a couple hours and you drop them off and they play games and decorate a cupcake. They loved it. And they have a mini- golf course there.

But in the general area we didn't find a whole lot to do. alloyd1170 sure made Hilton Head sound great. Not anything near that much to do in Vero. It is pretty rural actually. I was surprised. After having lived in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, I thought all of the FL coast was built up. But not Vero

I am not sure for the under three set, but my ten year old luved Vero. there is a nice big open beach, a waterslide in the fabulous pool with a DJ and kids activities for all ages at 3 pm (avrage age 4-6) nice mini golf place right next to the pool and a cute little outdoor snack bar serving what else? You guessed it, chicken and fries.
