vero beach in august?

has anyone been to vero beach? was there enough to do for a family with young children? is it worth the trip? what airport did you fly into? what time of yr did you go?

would august be too hot??
any info is appreciated.

There is an abundance of activities for families with young children to do. Kids in the 3-10 set have alot of scheduled activites to choose from, some with a fee some not. They have various arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, bingo, snorkeling classes (in the pool), all types of sports activites. There is also a 9 hole mini golf course themed around Peter Pan. For rainy days, we grade a few movies free to members and hang out in our villa.

We have been enjoying VB since our boys were 9 and 6. We have been going every summer during the summer months since. On our trip this summer they will be 16 and 14. We live in Ga so we drive so I can't help you with the airport question. Alot of people seem to fly into Orlando, its only about an 1.5 hr drive to VB. I believe there may be 2 other options annd I am sure someone will post them.

We went to Vero for the first time last year with our kids who were 7 & 8. We all loved it and had a great time, we were only there for 2 nights so all they wanted to do was play on the beach, sea and pool. There were plenty of kids activities and other things for them to do so it is now a firm part of out vacation plans. We would have already been staying in Orlando so drove down and it took about 2 hours.

The only thing was the strength of the sun - I made sure the kids were wearing sun protection suits and had on plenty of sun screen but DS managed to get the tops of his ears burnt. Just be very careful.

There is usually breeze coming off the ocean which cools it down a little. I don't think you will be too hot. Just spend a lot of time by the pool or beach.

My parents recently flew into Melbourne airport and we were very impressed. It is a nice airport-not too crowded, very up to date. We were in and out of there in no time and had a beautiful 1/2 hour drive to the resort.

You'll have plenty of activities to choose from!

We went last August and it was not too hot. But the sand was VERY hot as was the concrete. Shoes are required at all times except when you are in the water or at the water line. Having been a beach newbie, I was surprised at how hot it got on the sand.

The pirate ship water play area next to the pool will be a real hit with your children. My daughter was seven and loved it.

thanks for all the responses! such a hard decision- I want to visit vero, but I also really want to stay at our new "home" SSR! I called MS and both have availability- but for vero I couldn't book for 2 more weeks anyway.
