We are going to VB for April vacation and was wondering what the weather is like. Will it be warm enough for the beach and/or pool? . Also, any idea of the ocean water temp.? DDs are 13 and 10, so they are okay with cooler water. Since we will have a car and can shop, is there anything we should pick up along the way? Are there any "must" sees in the area. We plan on taking a day to go to Cape Canaveral.

The ocean temps are hit and miss for most people (in April), but since the gulf stream pushes through there it is likely to be acceptable to kids. I would guess between 68 - 74.

Just posted this on another thread, but in case you miss it here is the following. Underlined items are hyperlinks.

The VB resort provides daily activities for kids & adults with the best CMs of all the resorts.

They have a nice pool & Lighthouse spiral waterslide, a REALLY cool water deck area for the real young kids, a hot Jacuzzi, miniature golf, exercise room, ping pong, bike rentals, The Green Cabin Room (bar/restaurant) has 2nd floor covered deck that has a fantastic view of the ocean and is a nice place to relax with your favorite beverage. It also has live entertainment in the evenings. At night they have a campfire / s’more roast (bring the Cutter Advanced to fend off the No-see-ums). You can rent a small catamaran or jet-ski for ocean fun. Across the street they have a lake, picnic tables, nature trail, tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney built a private tunnel under the road to access this area. And of course they have the ocean and great waves for boogy boarding. Everything from the ocean to the pool to your room is no more than 2 minutes away walking. So it is real easy to break up your day

5 minutes away is Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and a wildlife education center. Just a few minutes further up the road is Sebastian Inlet State Park were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are many good fishing spots around the inlet, and there are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour north is Port Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours. 20 minutes south is McKee Botanical Garden (18 acres) with some REALLY cool vegetation and trees. 30 minutes south in Fort Piece is the Manatee Observation and Education Center.

Have great time :beach:

If the Hales Orange Grove store is still on Rt. 1, it's on the north side of Rt. 1 thats a definite stop for us. We'll be going there on Sunday, to buy the absolute best OJ in the world, to bring with us to the resort!

I've been in the ocean there in March, but hey, I'm used to New Jersey water temps!

Thanks, I am sure my kids won't mind 70o water. They are used to New England water- once went to Sandy Beach on Bar Harbor, Maine and the water temp was 65. BRRRRRR! It sounds as though there will be alot for the kids to do and the water slide is a must. I saw on DVC site there is mini-golf. Is it worth buying a week pass?
Thanks again

We're from CT and will be at VB April 16 - 20th. I have two DD ages 12 & 10, maybe we'll be there the same time!

80s is plenty warm enough for those of us from NE! Your DDs will have a ball. If you decide to go to dinner offsite, try Captain Hirams in Sebastian I think. It's not far from the resort.

You don't need to buy a pass for the mini golf, it's free for guests I believe.

Last year when we went the first week of April it was in the 80's. Our girls played in the pool and ocean. It was so beautiful we are going back the first week of April this year too. :)

Not sure. I don't recall the pricing. It isn't a real fancy course, but a nice basic course that the kids seem to like. One day a week they have free golf.

You all are going to have fun :beach:

barbnbrian. We will be the 16-21, so we will see you there, most likely at the pool. My dds LOVE water slides. I hope it is in the 80s. Forecast says we are going to get at least a foot of snow tomorrow :sad2:

Only 31 days to VB!!!

The ocean in Vero never gets extremely cold -- the gulf stream is right offshore and Vero is the start of the tropical part of Florida. April water temps should be in the low to mid 70's. Compare that to the average water temp at Newport RI or Woods Hole, MA in July -- temps average 69-70 at that time.

The temperatures in Vero next week are in the high 70's/low 80's. Chances are very good you'll have summer temps in April -- perfect low to mid 80's. There's a chance you could get hit with a day or two where temps might dip into the 60's but it won't last.

March-April are just about perfect in Florida.
